Tip of the day to you......

Extraordinary uses for....

PEANUT BUTTER

Here are some alternative uses for that peanut butter you may have in your cupboard and are afraid to eat.*

Get chewing gum out of hair...

There it is. The piece of chewing gum you gave to your child not ten minutes ago is now a wadded mess in his hair. Apply some peanut butter and rub the gum until it comes out. Your child's hair may smell like peanut butter until you shampoo it, but it's better than cutting the gum out.

Remove price-tag adhesive...

You've removed the price tag from that new vase you've just purchased but you're left with that pesky gummy glue on the glass. Remove it easily by rubbing peanut butter on it.

Bait a mouse trap...

You know the mice are out there, scurrying around your kitchen at night. It's time to get tough. Lay traps, but bait them with peanut butter. They can't resist, and it's nearly impossible for them to swipe without tripping the trap. You'll be rid of the critters in no time.

Eliminate stinky fish smell...

If you hate the smell that hangs in your house after you've fried fish, try this trick. Put a dollop of peanut butter in the pan with the frying fish. The peanut butter absorbs the odor instead of your house.

Plug an ice-cream cone...

Ice-cream cones can be a bit messy. Plug up the bottom with a bit of peanut butter. You'll be protected from leaks and there's a pea-nutty surprise at the end.

These tips brought to you from one of my all time ever favorite books, Extraordinary Uses for Ordinary Things, by Reader's Digest

PS...that hair thing really works. I used that tip countless times when my girls were little! It gets gum off shoes, too. :-)

*The great peanut butter recall of 2009 appears to be confined to peanut butter and peanut butter paste produced by the Peanut Corp. of America, at their plant in Blakely GA. The problem seems to be with products, like peanut butter crackers, made with their product, and not peanut butter sold in jars, like Skippy. However, if you'd rather be safe than sorry, I think you're OK using it in some of the ways I shared today. I personally don't care if any mouse I find in my kitchen gets e. coli.

Interesting timing for this post considering the peanut butter recall.

Perhaps we should wait before putting peanut butter in our kids' hair! :-)

The peanut butter recall, as I understand it, isn't peanut butter in jars, but peanut butter used in ready made products like peanut butter crackers, Sammy. And actually, I think the danger involves eating it, not using it on hair or shoes.

I've got a picture frame that has a price sticker gummy thing that won't come off. I'm going to give this a try!

Oh, I can attest to the hair thing. My mom used it on me. :)

Sadly, I've baited a few traps, as well. And it works.

I've also heard that minimarshmallows are good for the ice cream cone pluggage.

Thanks for the posting and for the Beef Burgundy. I'm definitely going to try it. Linda

I'm pretty sure you're right, Barb. It's products made with PB. And I love the ideas, I just struggled to get stickers off salad bowls and it took forever. And the marshmallow, I could have used that last week, with Landon. It dripped within minutes of scooping it.

I can testify that peanut butter gets gum out of hair beautifully!

I just wish my mother-in-law had asked me for advice before she took the scissors to my daughter's hair. Took me a few years to get over that incident...and I suppose I'm still a little bitter. LOL!

So you put a dollop of pb in the oil while the fish is frying, and the fish won't taste like it? Is that right?
