My kitchen sink is beginning to look a little less than lovely, so I decided to research the seriously proper way to care for stainless steel surfaces. Without even thinking about it, I went to my bookshelves and grabbed this book.

My sister gave me this book for Christmas two years ago. And I use it all the time because if you can think of a single thing you need to learn about caring for your home, inside or out, you're probably going to find it in this book.
Of course, Martha doesn't just say, "Use a gentle abrasive powder like Bar Keeper's Friend or Bon Ami." No ma'am. Martha says:
"Although stainless steel can scratch, over time the scratches mesh, forming a soft patina. (To learn more about the gauge of stainless steel, turn to Stainless-Steel Sinks, page 59.)"
"...soft patina...gauge of stainless steel"
You have to love Martha Stewart. LOL
This book works for me. I thought I'd share it with you because first of all, I love that she called it a homekeeping handbook instead of a housekeeping handbook, and second, if you don't have this book, you should and third, this is a fantastic gift idea.
This is one of the best Christmas gifts I've ever received.

I agree - great book!!!!
I like FlyLady's method of cleaning a sink and rubbing in a bit of lemon oil at the end for shine.

I had never heard of this book. It sounds like one I should be checking out.
When you first talked about this book...I went and got it from the library and learned so many things from it...i do love my martha.
Looks like a good book. Will check it out soon. TFS
I got this book from the library last summer. We had just gotten a new mattress and it was making our bed squeak. If I remember correctly she tells how to stop the bedframe from squeaking. Hee hee!

I go cheap and usually use just plain old baking soda, or if I have it on hand, a fresh cut lemon and table salt. Either works great, but the lemon gives your kitchen a great fragrance.

Great idea. I need the book!
I love Martha Stewart! I'll have to look for this book. :)
Thanks for the tip!
I know someone who would love this.....ME ;)
That is a great idea. I was just thinking yesterday that I need to figure out the best way to clean a porcelein sink, which is what I have. After 5 years of daily cleaning it is showing some wear and I need to perk it up a bit. So I will do some research with Martha.
I've checked this out from the library and you're right, it's great. It would definitely be worth owning. Maybe I should be dropping hints to those who are buying me gifts?
