FOOD FOR THOUGHT - A DEVOTIONAL
He comes alongside us when we go through hard times,
and before you know it,
He brings us alongside someone else
who is going through hard times
so that we can be there for that person
just as God was there for us.
~~ 2 Corinthians 1:4 ~~
Do you delight in the victories of others? You should. Each day provides countless opportunities to encourage others and to praise their good works. When you do so, you spread seeds of joy and happiness.
American poet Ella Wheeler Wilcox advised, "Talk happiness. The world is sad enough without your woe." Her words still apply.
Life is a team sport, and all of us need occasional pats on the back from our teammates. So, let us be cheerful with smiles on our faces and encouraging words on our lips. By blessing others, we also bless ourselves, and, when we do, God smiles.

TEN DAYS IN REVIEW - A FAMILY REUNITED
Well, hello again. I've been gone for ten days. OK. I haven't been gone, but with the exception of one quick post last Wednesday, I haven't been present in Bloggityville for ten days.
I honestly thought I'd be able to post a few times and keep up with things out here, while Mandy and Aaron were home, but then, I'm pretty well known for making huge plans that don't happen because I tend to be a little overly optimistic. :-)
If you're a new visitor to A Chelsea Morning, Mandy and Aaron just celebrated their first anniversary. He's in graduate school and she teaches elementary school (5th grade) on the eastern side of Colorado. I live in Grand Junction, eight miles from the Utah border. That's as far west as you can get in Colorado.
Allow me to confuse you. This is the first time I've been separated from Mandy except for the years she was in college at Mesa State, out here on the western slope, and I still lived in Frederick, over there on the eastern slope. Somehow, we did a little switcharoo and it's all backwards now. LOL
All that's to say, this was a HUGE thing, having them back home again and let me tell you, I've been in heaven.
I don't know how to describe the past ten days except to say, it was relaxing and wonderful. I think if I'd tried to spend time at the computer, keeping up with everyone AND doing posts constantly, I'd be exhausted and frustrated tonight.
Mandy left today. And I'm not exhausted and I'm not frustrated. I feel really good and actually, in spite of the constant house full of family for ten days, I feel rested.
I want to share the past ten days with you and I can only do it with photos. Trust me, we didn't climb any mountains. We didn't make any amazing day trips.
We were just a family that hung out together. There was a whole lot of snack type meals because we didn't waste our time cooking the whole time and there were no amazing day trips to beautiful places because we're family and being together, just doing our family thing, was what we all fell into naturally.
Krissy took the whole week off so she and Cameron and our new baby (Avery) were here almost 24/7. Trust me when I tell you, it's just hotter than blue blazes in Grand Junction right now, so we played outside until we couldn't stand it any more and then we came in and snacked and lots and lots of naps were enjoyed by all. Seriously, it's amazing how many times I looked around and realized, Cameron was down for a nap in my bedroom, Avery was sleeping peacefully in her swing, Rob was snoozing in his recliner, Krissy was napping on the couch and Mandy was snuggled into my mama bear chair with a Jodi Picoult book. Mandy reads as avidly as I do - she's working through my Jodi library. LOL
So, in photos, my one claim to a "vacation" this summer - my family, all in my house, for ten days.
We cooked hamburgers and hotdogs. Needless to say, we ran out of gas right in the middle of the cooking. Well of course we did. But all was OK - Andy ran down to his house and brought his gas bottle to the rescue. How classic is this family photo? Mandy's face is chopped in half. And I'm not in the photo because of course I take the photos so I'm never in them. Sigh.
Two things. First, that's Aaron's Mom Jan on the left.
And second, THAT'S MY OAK TABLE!!
Finally, we got our original family table back. Rob and I bought that table when both the girls were still in high chairs. It's traveled around the family for years and years and it's back home. We inherited Rob's mom's table when she passed away and it was truly a classic (Ethan Allen) but it wasn't the table my kids dyed Easter eggs on, the one they did their homework on and the one I spent uncountable hours filling out college applications on.
I love that table. I can't tell you how thrilled I am to have it back.
by aiming his shark shooter thingy into the sky.
To see these three reunited was so much fun. Cameron talks about them all the time and because he just turned three, I don't think he quite understands why he can't see them whenever he wants to.
Oh! I should probably tell you...since I left that hanging...no baby this month, but like Mandy and Aaron say, back to work, work, work. LOL
spent playing rummy. But I will tell you, it was wonderful. We've played rummy since as far back as they can remember.
The girls and I play rummy but Rob doesn't usually play with us. It's not challenging enough for him. LOL
So....he taught them how to play pinochle. Rob and I LOVE pinochle but we never taught them to play. This visit, we did. And they are addicted. If you play pinochle, you understand. Oh my word, we had SO much fun playing pinochle.
When the four of us sat around the table at night, after we had the babies settled down and it was quiet, just the four of us playing cards, it brought back such memories.
Memories of our camping trips. We had an RV. And we spent many evenings, just the four of us, sitting at the table playing games.
I know my daughters are grown and married and having babies. But for these few nights, sitting around the table, it reminded me so vividly of when it was just us four.
WHY do kids think it's OK to use absolutely the next-to-the-last sheet of tp and walk way saying, "Hey! I didn't use the last of it!"
I swear. Last Tuesday night. This is Rob's bathroom.
And yes, only a blogger would think to photograph this, but I ask you, is this not blog fodder? It's amazing. No matter how grown up they are, some things just never change. This happens so often, it doesn't even bother me any more. LOL
By the way, I don't know about your three year old, but I'm completely blown away at Cameron and the way he handles a mouse, plays computer games and knows how to click in and out of programs. He can't read, but he can do this. I'm truly astounded.
Thank goodness. Because she brought twenty yards of fabric with her. And I made curtains for her bedroom, office and living room. So I DID sew, Ladies. For two days. But....I feel good that she and Aaron asked me to do this for them.
And Papa took Cameron to the kindergarten playground and for the first time, ever, Cameron, got to swing.
Mandy knows that too much happens in between our visits, and so does Aaron. And this is why, thank you so much Jesus, they've decided when Aaron finishes graduate school, they're.coming.home.
And so this morning we took Mandy to the Amtrak station. How I wish I could have climbed onto that train with her. My first trip, last fall, to see my Mom, sucked. But I'm now officially a seasoned train traveler and how I would have loved to make this trip with her. I swear, it's got to be fun if you're traveling with someone and not alone, and for heavens sake, the cost of the ticket is cheaper than the gas to drive it these days.
I asked Rob to try to get some photos. Have I mentioned it's just hotter than beejeebs out here which is code for bright sunshine? He couldn't see squat in the camera. So he got this photo.
Not.
This is just a terrible photo. But since I always take the photos, this is the only photo of Mandy and me together from the whole visit. So I had to include it. LOL
If you lean your head to the left and squint really really hard, you can see Mandy and me and the baby WAAAAYYY back there.
And I have no idea what that guy's tee shirt means. Good grief. Why on earth do people think we need writing on our clothes?
ONE LAST THOUGHT
It bothered me to be away from my blog for so long. But you know, it only bothered me a little. I've been doing this for almost two and a half years and I love it.
But finally, after all this time, it occurred to me, it's OK to not feel so obligated and so driven that you forget to just stop and enjoy the simple things that make up your life.
This was one of the best ten days of my life.

I thought you were going to sneeze.
Oh Barb, sorry I wasn't more clear. Whenever I'm going to sneeze I look like you do in that picture where you are holding Avery. I sneeze like a cat (over and over again).
So, when I was reading your post and I came across that picture I thought you were going to write that you were getting ready to sneeze (but instead you wrote about how you weren't looking to heaven offering a prayer).
:)
love you

What a nice catch up post. You all look and sound like you had such a wonderful time together.
Aww...."The Feel-Good Post of the Week!" ;o)
I am just tickled that you had this time with Mandy, Aaron and the rest of the family, Barb. You really needed this time to recharge your batteries after all the stress with your shop and all.
If you make it over to my Sunday Dinner post anytime soon, be aware that all my plans are on hold. Lightning stuck my outside AC unit earlier and fried it. Toast. Threw the breaker and all that stuff.
Sigh...It's still 80ยบ and it's almost 1 am. You can chew the air it's so muggy, hot and humid. Yuck. I'll have to take a cold shower in the morning. As a matter of fact, it sounds pretty good right now!
Hope you have a blessed Sunday, and stay cool! :o)
Love and hugs,
Diane
Sounds perfect to me, Barb! How wonderful you had this time with your girls together, and soon it will be "normal" life again to have them popping in! I love the photos!
Looks like you all had a great time together. And you surely don't need to explain why you weren't here in blogland - blogland is always here to come back to when the time is right.
I am happy for you that the newlyweds want to move closer. My dh's brother was just here for a week with his children, and we haven't seen them for 2 years. : ( So much time goes by between visits, I felt really sad to watch them drive away this morning.
Barb - It's good to see you back but I'm awfully glad you took those 10 days to just enjoy your family and be with them. It looks like you had a great time! I used to play Pinochle with my Mom and her sisters and I remember having so much fun, but for the life of me, I can't remember how to play. You've inspired me to relearn this game and play it with my hubby (who played all the time in the Navy) and my two boys. I know we'd love it.
Thank you for sharing all the special photos. From one picture taker to another, I understand those pictures where we don't come out looking so good. Oh, I have so many of those. LOL
God bless you - Julie
Looks like you had the best time ever with your family! And my gosh, your grandkids are the cutest. Avery looks like the same squeezably soft stage as my little one. Thanks for all the photos.
And just this week I made those peanut butter cookies - they were mmmmmm wow yummy! My batch made two dozen and they were eaten up way too fast. I think I'll make three times the batch next time;) My poor waistline...
Well, we don't hear from you for 10 days. And this is your excuse??? So you think spending time with your family, especially your daughter who you haven't seen for months, is more important than blogging? That they're more important than catching up with your blogging buddies??? (Said with tongue firmly in cheek!)
You betcha!!
Glad you had the time with all of them. And I bet you just can't wait until they move back home.
sounds like a great time!
Of all the bright, creative, witty and sentimental posts I have read here on your blog ... THIS is my absolute favorite. It is just YOU!
And there is way too much to comment on so I am pacing myself with one thing:
When I was 12 yrs old and my brother was 11, my family moved from St Louis to Chicago, away from my grandma that lived right next door to us.
My parents had a standing Friday night pinochle game with grandma and my unlce that always lasted into the night and included pizza from our favorite joint.
So when we moved, and they found themselves with pinochle partners, they taught my brother and me to play and We Had A Blast. I taught my friends and no matter who was around on any given night, there was a game going.
In turn, while going through high school, our study hall teacher allowed us to play, so we gathered in corners and dealt HIM a hand and we all had a blast.
No matter the game, playing brings folks together. Who needs a Wii when you have deck of cards?
Thanks Barb. This was a blast. And no better way to tell it all than in pictures.
Barb, So glad you had such a wonderful time. I love being around family and just "being" family. Who cares if you didn't cook 7 course meals or didn't go to the Grand Canyon....you stayed home, talked and stayed up til you fell over. Watched movies, played games, and just had a wonderful time. How nice!
There have been a few things that I thought were major times in mine, jason's and emmy's life..and we didn't get pictures! And then there's the times where only Jason took pictures, or I only took pictures...Emmy's going to think mommy and daddy were separated when she was young...lol.
So glad you had a good time, and good luck with the grand-baby! Hope their trying works!
Have a good Sunday.
Sorry, I had to delete my last comment. For some reason I wasn't logged into my right blogger account...
I'm so glad that you had such a nice visit! Just looking at the pictures brought tears to my eyes!
What a sweet and restful visit! Sounds like you had a great "vacation" with your loved ones. I loved the pictures. I'm always the one in our family pictures watching the birds in the trees or squinting at the sun. That's why I always take the pictures!
Your table looks BIG and beautiful! Wonder how many stars or sock monkeys will fit on that table?
Good to have you back in Bloggityville!
Well that was fun - I feel caught up with you - all the photos were just great, and good for you for posting a funny photo of you - at least it was a photo. Glad to hear your visit was all you were hoping for.
Barb,
I can only say I know exactly how you felt. How can there be anything better than spending time with your family. I am so overwhelming thankful for the amazing adults my children have grown into and the wonderful young women who have become daughters to us. And the grandchildren - absolute priceless gifts.
I think your final thought sums it up so very well. Blogging is fun, but it doesn't compare to the real stuff of family life. I'm so glad you had that memory-making ten days.
Sounds like such a wonderful time! I am so glad Mandy and Aaron are moving back.
You're exactly right -- spending time with family is much more important than being at the computer.
I SO understand. In May, we met my daughter's family in Lancaster County for a wonderful week of chatting, shopping, and Grammie kisses (Grammie being ME). That week will always be among my most favorite of all my life.
To make certain I didn't think of my blog, I did not go with my son to the only restaurant that had wi fi (we WERE in Amish country). :)
Love your pictures. It brings back good memories of my own vacation.
What an incredible 10 days for you and your family! It looks like you all just enjoyed each other's company so much!
We just got back from Colorado a few weeks ago and felt the same way about our visit with my parents. It was wonderful. The older that I get, the more I realize that there truly is nothing more important than family and friends.
Barb, I received the book on Friday...and I can't wait to get started on it. Thank you again for the giveaway!
Sounds like you had a wonderful 10 days Barb, I love all the photos, there's nothing like family time :)
What a fun post! I love seeing all the pictures of Krissy and Mandy! I'm glad you had such a great time--we girls are all going to have to figure out a way to get to the beach together sometime!! That would be SO much fun!!
:)
Going back to the beginning of this post, I love that you're an optimist! That's on of the (many) reasons I come over here:)
It was such fun to read about your time together with your girls. Thanks for sharing your family with us. And you mean, even after they grow up, they don't figure out the toilet paper thing? I'm sure it's because they're back in mom's house LOL.
Thank you for sharing your fun visit with us. I was wondering where Avery was when I was looking at the pictures, but then I saw her at the end =) I know what it feels like to only see your nieces/nephews once in awhile. You try to soak them up the whole time you are there.
Blessings.
Welcome back! What a fantastic time you had. Thank you for sharing with us!
Barb I am so pleased you had a lovely time with your family
Im so pleased it was the best 10 days of your life
looks like your family had a fab time too
have a good week
jen
Nothing better than family all home together. why do mother's like that sort of thing? Seeing the kids laughing and playing nicely together...its wonderful! and so rare as they get married etc. Sounds like your vacation was perfect!
Glad to have you back. Sounds like you had a wonderful 10 days with your babies!! LOVE the pictures! Thanks for sharing your family with us.
Your family gatherings look a lot like mine. When I get together with my parents and four siblings and all the kids, we just hang out and eat, play cards, play with the kids, go shopping, etc. We have a great time doing a whole lot of nothing!
I'm glad you had a wonderful time with Mandy and Aaron's visit.
Thanks for sharing pictures with us. :)
Hey Barb! Welcome back. I missed you but Family first! I knew you would be back soon. The one piture of you praying? :) looks just like BEV. I loved it. That is exactly how I feel here in texas today at 103 degree's!!!
I am so thrilled you had an amazing time with your girls....
Welcome back! We missed you, but you sound so good, so full of love and happiness and memories! I know you hate it that they are so far away, and it is hard, but sometimes it's good for young marrieds to have a little time away with just them... and now they can come back! And maybe Mandy will be preggers and you will have that joy and blessing
By the way, have you thought about opening a daycare in your home:) LOL If Mandy has a baby, you may have to!
You have inspired me to start my own blog, you constantly inspire me and stir me to thinking with your Sunday posts... Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are a wonderful person and it's obvious your daughters love you so much. Thanks for letting us share your life with us!
You've been BUSY!
I'm so glad your daughter and son-in-law are moving back home - my middle brother lives far away and we see him a few days a year for a couple of days and it's not enough. :(
I love the pictures!!! Hunter has the same spiderman hat Cameron has!!! And he would be WAY jealous of all those toys!
Welcome back. We missed you, but family comes first.
So glad you had some real 'quality' time with your daughter, son-in-law and the rest of your family. You are so blessed. Twyla
Hi Barb,
I'm Rhonda, a Beaumont girl and frequent lurker of your blog. While organizing my sewing room I came across several yards of chenille, some in sort of a buttercream color and the remainder in a sweet little pastel stripe. It would make a wonderful backing for a baby comforter or blanket. I also have a yard of flannel which is white with tiny pink rosebuds on it. If you are interested in this fabric I will be happy to give it to you, just let me know soon.
Looks like you had a great visit! I'm glad to see that everyone is healthy around your place these days, too! Everyone looks so happy and little Cameron looks like he's really feeling good these days...what an answer to prayer!
I'm glad you had your little mini-vacation with your family, and I'm really glad that Mandy and Aaron will be moving back. My husband actually wants to buy the house next door to my parents! Can you believe a man wanting to live next door to his in-laws? I'm guessing your sons-in-law feel the same about you. Good for you and Rob! That is truly a gift you have for loving your family, and making everyone feel comfortable...which is also why we all come and hang out here with you!
Loved catching up with the pictures! Your family is just precious, and I love that Cameron is so close to his uncle.
I must say that grandson of yours has some pretty awesome toys! It gives me some good ideas for my new nephew in a couple of years.
Wow, what a great post. It looks like you had such a great time. Your family is so beautiful! We play rummy a lot here. Sometimes my husband and I play for who will change the next diaper or read to the kids before bed, lol. Great pics! What a great Mom you are! If you feel like it sometime, check out my blog. Bobbi
http://mixedblessings4.blogspot.com/
What a wonderful 10 days you had! That's life and that's what we are meant to do. Thanks for sharing it with us. I love blogging, but I'm trying to learn to let it go a little bit. The 2 weeks we were on vacation in June is helping with that. I realized that I can go without blogging for 2 whole weeks and I'm still alive :)
I'm so glad that you had a wonderful time. Those are sweet memories!
Oh, it's so much fun coming here and catching up on everything! You make me laugh, especially about the tp. If you can spare a square, I mean minute...stop by my place. When I saw the picture I immediately thought of you! But it's a good thing. :o)
And I've changed blogs. My new place is www.amuns.blogspot.com
And if you stop by, would you please tell me how your husband's shoulder is doing now? I think about him a lot.
Thanks! Amy
It sounds like you had some of the best of times! Wonderful and welcome back!!
Goodness, I had so much fun reading this post, Barb. Clearly, these 10 days blessed your socks off. I got a bit sad when I read your excitement about Mandy moving back home and how happy you feel. I'm soooo happy for all of you. But I'm sad for me. Carl and I had to move away from my parents just as they're beginning to experience age related health problems, retirement, etc. And we took four of their five grandkids with us. AND we're now a 6 hour drive away. :( :( :( Not the way I wanted life to work out, but decent paying jobs being what they are (and northern Ohio's manufacturing industry going belly up too), we had to follow Carl's job out of state when his airline closed its location in Cleveland. Sigh.
I truly enjoyed viewing all the photos and reading about your reunion. And laughed my tail off at the pictures Rob took. The one with the "Loose women" shirt had me rolling as I squinted to see you and those words jumped out at me. Bahahahaha! What were the chances that some big guy with a tacky shirt would have to stand RIGHT there? :D
Sounds like you'll see Mandy and Aaron again around Christmas? That's when I'll be going home again too (I just spent 5 days with my parents in OH last week; we too had a GREAT time together).
Praying about those red-headed grandbabies for all of you too (you know how I love the strawberry blonde hair my Reece has).
Blessings,
~Toni~
