OK, Ladies...this is GOOD!

Almost everyone loves spaghetti, especially kids and men. Right? And almost everyone loves sausage and pepperoni pizza, too. Especially those same kids and men.

Imagine both those popular dishes in one dish. I'll admit, I was a little skeptical when Krissy pointed this out to me in our new cookbooks. Then she told me she made it, she and Andy and Cameron had it for dinner, and after dinner, Andy went back and finished off the whole thing! It's that good.

This recipe is on page 68 of this cookbook. This is one great cookbook. Southern Living's annual recipe cookbooks come to me automatically because I subscribe to the magazine, but if you don't, and this looks good to you, you can check it out by clicking on this photo of the book.

I tell you, Pam Todd of Birmingham, Alabama should get a gold star or something. I should have known this was created by a southern gal. Southern women can cook! And you won't believe how easy this is to make.

So here's the recipe exactly as it appears in the cookbook.

Pizza Spaghetti Casserole

~~ freezeable - make ahead ~~

PREP: 15 MIN., COOK: 15 MIN., BAKE: 40 MIN.

We preferred turkey pepperoni so you don't get a greasy appearance. Freeze the unbaked casserole up to one month. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator; let stand 30 minutes at room temperature, and bake as directed.

12 oz. uncooked spaghetti
1/2 tsp. salt
1 (1-lb.) package mild ground pork sausage
2 oz. turkey pepperoni slices (about 30) cut in half
1 (26-oz.) jar tomato-and-basil pasta sauce
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 (8-oz.) package shredded Italian three-cheese blend

1. Cook spaghetti with 1/2 tsp. salt according to package directions. Drain well, and place in a lightly greased 13x9-inch baking dish.

2. Brown sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes or until meat crumbles and is no longer pink. Drain and set aside. Wipe skillet clean. Add pepperoni, and cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, 4 minutes or until slightly crispy.

3. Top spaghetti in baking dish with sausage; pour pasta sauce over sausage. Arrange half of pepperoni slices evenly over pasta sauce. Sprinkle evenly with cheeses. Arrange remaining half of pepperoni slices evenly over cheese. Cover with nonstick or lightly greased aluminum foil.

4. Bake at 350* for 30 minutes; remove foil, and bake 10 more minutes until cheese is melted and just begins to brown.

Makes 6 servings

Here's what you need and this is exactly
twice the ingredients called for because you know me.
I'm making a double batch.
By the way, those are 16-ounce packages of spaghetti
and I used that much in this dish rather than the
12 ounces called for. Didn't seem to make a big difference.

Cook the spaghetti, spray your casserole dish with Pam,
and put the well-drained spaghetti in the dish.

Sprinkle the cooked and crumbled sausage evenly
over the spaghetti. I used Jimmy Dean sausage, but you know,
I'm thinking this would be really good with Italian sausage too.

Pour the tomato-basil pasta sauce evenly over all
and place the pepperoni pieces all over. For the record,
I completely forgot to cut the pepperoni in half. That didn't seem
to make a big difference either.

Sprinkle the Parmesan evenly over all.

And sprinkle the three-cheese blend over all of that.

I lightly sprayed the foil with Pam.
You know for sure all that cheese is going to stick
when you bake it, if you don't spray the foil.

One of these was dinner last Sunday night. I served it with a green salad and garlic bread. And the other one is in the freezer and will be a great (and easy) meal when Mandy comes to visit the first week of July.

There're no onions in this dish. Aaron truly hates onions. So I suspect Miss Mandy is going to want this recipe because she's her mama's daughter and cooking without onions just makes us get teary eyed.

I tell you, this is delicious and it's almost ridiculously quick and easy. I'll bet you anything, your husband and your kids are going to love this one!

PS...Wouldn't this make a great dish to take to a pot-luck? Or to serve at your Bunco party? You can make this a day or so ahead and refrigerate it until you're ready to bake it. Just make sure you let it come to room temperature before you pop it in the oven, so your glass dish doesn't explode. LOL

This looks delicious!!! Thank you so much for posting in steps. My DH is thankful too!LOL He is enjoying my new recipes from your tutorial. Being a preacher's wife, I am constantly needing a dish for a potluck dinner. This will be perfect!

Wow! Yummy! and EASY! Love it. I'll be using this recipe in my cooking class for SURE!!!

It would be a GREAT dish to take to someone after they had a baby or recovering from surgery!

Have I told you lately how much you ROCK!??

Thanks so much for sharing this recipe. I love Southern Living recipes!!! Also, thanks for mentioning (and showing) the sausage that you used. I don't care for italian sausage because I don't like the seeds in there (I don't know what they are for sure).

My friend's little daughter is in the hospital again due to a brain injury she suffered about 18 months ago. Part of the parents' angst is trying to make the rest of family life (for the remaining 4 kids at home) as "normal" as possible. I can't wait to make this dish! What teenager wouldn't love it!??!

Thanks, Barb. I love your tutorials! Ustabe, don't you like that new word? Anyway, it ustabe that turkey enchiladas was my "go-to" freezer dish. I think those may have just been bumped off the pedastal. ;)

Looks awesome Barb! But then again, I don't think I've ever made a SL recipe that wasn't good. :)

I subscribe to the magazine, but don't get the annual. I wonder which issue this was in? Irregardless, you were kind enough to share and post it, so I'm going to copy it down. Yummy, who doesn't love spaghetti and pepperoni, like you said - we certainly do!

Have a great day!

Sounds good and Jason's mouth was watering at the sound of it when I was reading it to him, SO I guess I will be making this one too. O, and thanks for the info about the glass dish exploding...sometimes I wish God had given me a little more common sense....Like the time I took a pot of taco soup straight out of the frige and put it on a HOT burner...and well the soup burnt. I had no clue you could burn soup and that you should let it heat as the burner heats...I know I know....how stupid!

Have a great rest of the week

Darn it, Barb! Your pictures of that Pizza Spaghetti Casserole are making my tummy rumble with hunger and all I brought to work today for lunch is a Lean Cuisine grilled sandwich. It won't be nearly as satisfying as your dish. ((sigh)) I guess I'll have to make this soon, perhaps this weekend! Thanks for sharing!

Oh, and I just thought I’d let you know that I posted a picture of Baby Bug in a tutu. Stop by if you’d like to see her cuteness!

Isn't Gretchen too funny! Ustabe - before I read on, I sat there and moved that around in my mouth, thinking what on earth kind of word is ustabe.... This sounds really, really, really, really good and I'm going to make it this weekend, actually double it like you did, and find someone to invite over. Thanks!

Bloglines has not informed me of any new posts for you for a week. Imagine my surprise to click over just out of curiosity to see if I missed what you were so busy with, and find that you have been busy bloggin.

Gracious! Well, too much to count on. Just know I'm in your corner on it all, enjoying the photos, cursing those dread weeds, and smiling at those cute stars.

Go. Be well. Enjoy! I'll pray.

That spaghetti looks delicious, I will have to try it. We're having spag and meatballs tonight! I would have made the pie but I don't have the meat ingredients in for it... next week though, for sure ;) I know my hubs will love it.
I don't know why but my blogfeeds stopped showing that you had posted and I missed a whole week of posts, inc. the controversial 'anonymous' post! I'm so sorry you had to deal with that, but you dealt with it admirably. My heart and prayers go out to Krissy and Aaron.
(((hugs)))

No onions??? How can it be??? ;v)

I'm definitely going to be trying this one out, Barb. I've heard of it but just couldn't imagine it. Now that I see it, my mouth is just watering.

Yum! And I'm with you--cooking without onions just seems wrong. Chris' mom has been doing it for almost 40 years, since his dad hates them. God bless her.

I'm going to have to make this one soon. Even my picky kids will eat it!

Thanks for the great recipe, I made it tonight for dinner. I didn't have any sausage on hand or I used hamburger instead and it was fabulous!
Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing this recipe! It looks SO yummy! I know my whole family will love it. I like the idea of making it ahead and freezing it, too, for our monthly pot-luck dinners at church. I think it would be a hit!

God bless you ~ Julie

How timely Barb! I just made this the other night sans recipe. Fazoli's has this on their menu and I've been making it for years. And it IS great for potluck with one caveat: write a note on it NOT TO STIR when reheating. At our church there is always a kitchen crew helping to get the foods warmed up and on the buffet table. First time I brought this someone gave it a good stir! Ewwwwww. No one would eat it because it had big glumps of cheese and looked "bad". Tip: I now ALWAYS write on my items with a Sharpie 1)identifying the item 2)reheating instructions if any or none.
Blessings, Shay

I was thinking I hadn't heard from you in a while, and clicked on your blog from Bloglines, and was surprised to see a couple of posts that hadn't come through there. Don't know what the problem was! But this looks delicious!

I made this for dinner tonight and it is definitely a keeper. I used sweet Italian sausage and it turned out yummy; might use breakfast sausage next time to see which we like best. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

This looked too good not to try! I just finished assembling one 9 x 13" and two 8" square pans full. DH will love it as I share one of the small dishes with him tonight; the other two will freeze until there's a need. Since I have the joy and privilege of heading up the Angel Food meal ministry at church (for new moms, folks going through illnesses, etc.), the others will be distributed in no time!

Thanks, Barb, for your yummy recipes and excellent, fun tutorials!

Hey, I just made THREE huge pans of this. One for tonight's dinner, one for my freezer and one to send home with my Mom on Friday. :)

Can't wait to try this! I've printed out the recipe and will be getting the ingredients during our weekend grocery trip. Question -- do you make your own garlic bread (if so, could you share your recipe?) or do you buy it pre-made (if so, what brand)?

Thanks for all of your yummy pics too!
