Having a Mary Heart.....a giveaway

Entries are closed - I'll announce the winner in just a moment.

An invitation for every woman who’s ever felt she isn’t godly enough, isn’t loving enough, isn’t doing enough.

The life of a woman today isn’t really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in the New Testament. Like Mary, you long to sit at the Lord’s feet…but the daily demands of a busy world just won’t leave you alone. Like Martha, you love Jesus and really want to serve him…yet you struggle with weariness, resentment, and feelings of inadequacy.

Then comes Jesus, into the midst of your busy life, to extend the same invitation he issued long ago to the two sisters from Bethany. Tenderly, he invites you to choose “the better part” – a joyful life of intimacy with him that flows naturally into loving service.

With her fresh approach to the familiar Bible story, Joanna Weaver shows how all of us – Marys and Marthas alike – can draw closer to our Lord: deepening our devotion, strengthening our service, and doing both with less stress and greater joy.

Joanna Weaver was voted the Most Promising New Writer of 1997 at the Mount Herman Writer’s Conference. She has authored Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World and written for publications such as Focus on the Family, Home Life, Aspire, and The Evangel. A pastor’s wife for more than eighteen years, she and her husband have counseled many couples, both those approaching their wedding and those struggling in marriage. The Weavers live in Montana and have taught young married classes and spoken on the topic of marriage throughout the northwestern United States.

I'm pretty sure everyone who knows me through the medium of blogging, knows I'm Martha. Not THAT Martha, although I seem to have (hopefully affectionately) acquired the nickname of "Barbtha."

No, I'm that other Martha. And the thing is, I know it. And I've always struggled to be more Mary. This amazing book is a how-to guide to slowing down and remembering that you can run around in circles, being the perfect answer to everyone's simplest need, but if you don't know how to stop and listen to the sweet, gentle voice of your Saviour, you really are just running around in circles, and circles lead to nowhere.

I feel privileged to share this wonderful book with you. If you'd like to win my copy, please leave a comment. I'll draw a winner Saturday morning.

I only have one copy to give away. But if you'd like more chances to win, simply visit Joanna's blog tour post. She's giving away seven additional copies.

She's also giving away seven copies of her newest release, With This Ring.

So leave a comment here, leave a comment there and your odds are greatly increased!

I think you'd enjoy Joanna's blog too.

Good luck everyone!

I have been seeing this book everywhere and would love to have a chance to win it. I think most Christian women struggle with their Mary vs. Martha sides.

I must enter this giveaway. I had that book, taught that book, loved that book. It changed my life ... reallly.

Then I lent it to an aquaintance who never gave it back and eventually moved away. I'd love to have another copy and be able to offer it as a bible study again at church. It has been several years since we did it and we have a whole slew of women who need this.

Thank you so much Barb. I'm heading to Joanna's blog too.

I've wanted to read this book for a long time - so identify with Martha - the busy busy one who struggles with finding the time to sit and just be with Jesus.

Love your blog - always enjoy reading it.

We definitely struggle with the "should would ought syndrome" which is to me the same thing as being a Martha! I would love this book. Maybe I'll have time to read it now!

I loved the latest Father Tim book - it was wonderful.

To anyone reading the comments ... let me just say -- I have this book, and LOVE it. Our women's ministry is reading through it this summer, and she is so engaging. She writes in such easy language.
