It was inevitable.....

There are two things that the men in my family, for as far back as I can remember, have always believed.

There's no such thing as too much duck duct duck duct shiny silver tape and there's absolutely nothing you can't fix with it.

And real men own at least twenty ballcaps.

Your first ballcap, in my family, is a rite of passage. And Cameron just got his. His daddy took him shopping and Cameron showed up at my house yesterday, wearing this.

By the way, you don't have to tell me how cute he is...I can assure you, I already know. :-)

Men and their ballcaps are so funny. Just by the ballcaps they wear, you know their hobbies, every single place they've ever worked in their whole lives, and that they'd rather be fishing.

Rob has more ballcaps than I can count. His two favorite say, "U.S. Air Force - Veteran" and "Rocky Flats Fire Department." That says a lot about the man, don't you think?

The ballcap he has that says, "Curmudgeon" says a lot about him too but let's not go there. He loves that ballcap. LOL

So Cameron's first ballcap doesn't say a thing - but there's Spiderman right on top of his head.

I imagine his next ballcap will have the name of his tee ball team on it. Someday he'll have a ballcap with the name of the college he attends on it.

And who knows? Maybe someday he'll wear a ballcap that says, "NASA - Vision for Space Exploration." Or maybe, "Merrill Lynch - Wall Street."

But for now, he totally loves his little Spiderman ballcap. So do I. :-)

Look who's six weeks old! Avery is our chunky baby. My gosh, she's a very filled out little girl, isn't she?

No ma'am, that's not gas. That's Avery responding to the sound of my voice. OK, she might be responding to the ridiculous faces I'm making at her too, but she really does already respond to the sound of Nana's voice.

She and I begin about a two year adventure tomorrow. Her momma goes back to work and she'll be with me Monday through Friday until we think she's ready for a daycare group. Cameron was about two when he left my full time care. He and I still have Fridays together - it's the most special day of the week for me. And I plan to have exactly the same with my adorable little Avery.

Is she precious or what! And the more of this she does for the next couple of weeks, the easier my life will be. I am, after all, trying to open a business here.

I just thought I'd show you how cute my two grandbabies are. I'm not proud of them or anything.

We have the same tradition here with the hats ... I can't think of a time in the last 20 years (wow, 20 years) that John has been without one on his head - accept on our wedding.

Then again, he also didn't wear his glasses for the ceremony either, and said I was a "vision in white". frankly, I think I was a blob in white to him without his specks :)

Jonathan is now a hat fanatic- but at least it makes it easier to find them in a crowd.

Avery is such a sweetie, and I'm sorry Krissy has to go back to work so soon Enjoy your nana time!

Ball caps are the cutest things on little guys. I thought for sure his first one would have Curious George on it though. ;v)

Avery is precious. She is doing so well considering everything that has happened in her short little life so far. I absolutely believe she's smiling at her Nana.

What you said about guys and their ballcaps is so very true. My husband and my adult son each have quite a variety of them, and they all tell you pretty much what you need to know about them.

Your daughter is so fortunate that she has you to care for her babes those first two years, when the love and snuggles they'll receive are so very important to their development. :-)

Not proud of those 2 gorgeous babies?!? Liar liar white cotton bloomers on fire! Ha! ;o)

My arms are aching for wanting to squeeze the daylights of both of those cuties! I want to smooch on 'em until their cheeks are chapped, but I guess you can do that for me. Oh, wait! You're already doing that!

Okay, carry on with stocking your shelves for the online boutique. ;o)

My grandfather had over 100 ballcaps when he died and we divided them up among family. I love to see my boys wearing his caps! Avery's hair is so cute - I just love baby hair LOL How fortunate your grandkids are to be able to spend so much time with their Nanna. What a relief it must be for your daughter to know her baby will be so well cared for during the day.

Love Cameron in his ball cap, Barb!

And oh my...what a sweet smile on Avery!!! I love those very first baby smiles...and she has the cutest dimples!

And Barb, remember my famous ability to attract small disasters on trips? Well, if you haven't already, you'll have to come over and read what happened...maybe just skim Parts 1 and 2 before the reveal...;)

Have a great rest of the week!

Okay, dont change it because it's way too cute the way it is, but I have to tell you - it's DUCT tape, as in ductwork, as in repair the house, not the things that quack. Just thought you'd want to know, and of course you already know your grandkids are exactly as cute as mine are. xoxoxo

There are two things that marked my son passing from a baby to a "big" boy. One was his first haircut and the second was his first "real" cap like Papa. Jays's first cap was one with Smurfs on it!
Cameron has the most beautiful innocent eyes! Enjoy your time with both of these beautiful sweethearts - they don't stay little very long!

Yep my husband has the hat thing going too! Somehow someone sent us a BOX of hunting hats and he keep almost all of them!

The babies are so cute!

With three guys in my house, I'm never at a loss for a ball cap on a bad hair day. I try to snag a couple when they're still new.

We have the same sort of tradition at our house. I guess its an American thing. you can go anywhere in the world and spot Americans by the ball caps..:) My daughter pulled one out of her memory box just last night..her dad brought it to her from some foreign country and she wore it for ages as a child, :) Glad to hear your lif is settling down..now you'll have the baby..:) So sorry Krissy ahs to go back to work so soon. I'm sure with all the drama it doens't seem like she's had a break at all!

Barb, have you ever seen a quilt made with hat patches / emblems? It is a great thing to do with hats as they are kept but no longer wearable or in use?

My grandmother made each of her grandchildren a grown-up quilt as we got older. My brother's quilt was made out of denim squares with a hat patch or cut out emblem, embroidery, etc. in the middle of the denim square. Then she used red bandanas for the back of the quilt. Of course, it took less time by far than any of the other quilts...and it is to this day the most popular. We all enjoyed talking about the different patches and where they came from. My grandfather had a bread route and many of the patches were the different breads his company had delivered over the years, then the companies the aunts and uncles worked for, hats from vacations, etc. It is truly a momento and a great something to do with hats that are no longer worn.

You can wash them in the washing machine or even in the top rack of the dishwasher.

All the comments about men and their hats made me think of sharing this.

We are SO spoiled by year-long Canadian maternity leaves. I wish that Krissy could have one too, although Avery is lucky to have a loving Grandma to cherish her.
(Cameron is CUUUUTE!)

Six weeks old already!!! How does time go by so quickly? Is it possible my first grandbaby is sixteen? No way!!
Enjoy these precious days Nana. The pictures are wonderful.
Ah yes - boys (men) and their ball caps. I needed almost a whole cardboard box to pack up my husbands'.

Oh Ballcaps! I can't even begin to count the number in my house. My hubby's favorite is a Vietnam Veteran cap he got at a reunion, Cabela's his favorite store in the whole wide world and of course our Kamp Kinship caps that we have here...plus more.

Joey's are ALL sports related and lately his Tar Heels caps are his favorite - not sure how many he has now.

Your grandbabys are simply PRECIOUS! Hugs!
