A cute baby shower idea....and other stuff

I was going through a drawer in one of my bedside stands today, looking for something, and came across this. I save things like this and the minute I saw it, I remembered how much fun this was.

When Krissy was eight and half months pregnant with Cameron, I gave her a truly amazing baby shower. Thirty-five guests. Honestly, at the time I was able to go a little crazy over my first grandchild and boy, did I. I bought the pretty bassinet she's using now, strictly because I thought it was a really sweet thing for people to put gifts in and around. I bought a baby bathtub, filled it with ice and put six pounds of cocktail shrimp in it. I wanted to buy a potty chair and use the potty part for the cocktail sauce, but Kris vetoed that idea big time.

That was a fun, fun baby shower and this is the favor we gave each guest.

Pretty simple, really. It's just a baby bottle filled with peanut M&M's, tied with a little blue bow and I attached a vellum strip that said, "Thank you for sharing our joy. Andy, Krissy and Cameron."

Isn't that cute? I'll warn you though....you'd be amazed how many bags of peanut M&M's it takes to fill that many baby bottles. :-)

So most of you know I'll have Avery here Monday through Friday and on Friday, I'll have Avery and Cameron. Today was the first Friday. It all went pretty well I think. I'm not going to try to convince you I wasn't busy today. My word. But really, it all went very smoothly right up until naptime.

In spite of the fact that he's almost three (end of June), Cameron still naps in this porta crib. As a matter of fact, he loves it. It's HIS bed.

(For the record, that porta crib is slicker than you know what - there's a music box on one corner that plays classical music. Seriously.)

But as you can see, it's occupied by someone else now. You should have seen the look on his face when he saw that not only was his bed in my living room (it's been in my bedroom for two years) but AVERY was in it!

And you should have seen the look on MY face when I realized, good grief, it's naptime and where on earth can I put Cameron? My bed is seriously four feet high and no way would I put him on it and risk him falling off.

So I thought, well we'll just skip naptime for him today and his parents can figure it out when they take him home. Then I looked over and saw him and his monkey leaning over my ottomon and Cameron was standing there, asleep. Not sure about the monkey, but Cameron was dog tired after playing outside almost all morning.

So I improvised and really, it seems to work just fine. Don't you love the way his froggy fleece blanket coordinates so well with my frilly flowery sofa? I could barely stand it but Cameron and Chelsea didn't seem to care at all.

I was pleasantly surprised today to discover
he's very good at helping me keep Avery entertained.

I'm launching my new shop early next week. I've been sewing and making things and assembling things every single moment that I haven't absolutely had to do something else, for three weeks. I finally figured out, if I wait until I have everything I wanted to open with finished in large quantities before I take it public I'll never get it open. So I'm opening with just a few items and of course I'll constantly be adding things to it. I have so many ideas my head is spinning, but I need to stop worrying about it all being just so, and just do it.

So there you have it...my Friday. And you guessed it - it's barely 8:30 and me and my book are headed straight to bed about two seconds after I hit "publish."

I hope you had a nice restful Friday too. LOL

They are SO cute! I swear you always have the neatest ideas on here. I can't wait to see your shop.

I was awarded the E for Excellent blog award today and I've chosen you as one of the blogs I want to pass the award on to. I recently found your blog and always look forward to seeing what you've created and pictures of those cute grandbabies! Come on over to my site and grab the award to post on your blog if you're interested.

That Chelsea cracked me up how she's always right there snoozing with Cameron. I solved the 3 year old nap problem by buying a couple of those parachute material little preschool toy tents. The kids love love love having their naps in them and when you're done with it a fold or two and it's flat as a pancake and can store anywhere. That way you can still have him in another room so you don't have to tippy toe around.

I'm glad your first Friday with both of the kids together went well. Cameron is adorable helping out with little Avery.

Barb, I so enjoy reading your blog. I do read every post faithfully; I just don't comment often. I did want to tell you that I was in this cutesy baby store in Nashville last week and thought of you. It is a high end store that has stuff way too rich for my blood, but they had "your" burp clothes very, very similar to what you are making for sale at 2 for $28. I was thinking that in all your spare time (read that with sarcasm inserted), you might talk to some locally owned baby stores about selling some of your stuff on a consignment-type basis. Many smaller shops will frequently do that. Anyway, just a thought. I'm glad everyone is feeling better.

I love the picture of Cameron and Chelsea napping. There's nothing like a boy and his dog.

Oh you are so blessed. The children are so blessed to have you too. How wonderful it is to see a Grand Mother being a Grand Mother!

Kids are so adaptable, and thank goodness. We fuss and fret, but really if they have been raised in teepees and tents and cabins and shacks, they can probably sleep about anywhere. He looks like he (and you) did just fine. First Friday down, good for you!

I had Emmy a full day on Thursday due to Jessica's CPR training for her job, and I'll have Emmy again all day Saturday. I've been so busy with Emmy and doing some long neglected housework that I've met myself coming and going.

Coming from a Grandma who just has one to care for, you're doing good, Nana. I don't know how you've managed to get so much done for your shop and take care of the young'uns.

Someone left a slightly snarky comment about me only posting for my Sunday Dinners lately (anonymously, of course!) but I really don't care. Life is more important at the moment and I'll get back to posting more often when I find the time.

Hope you enjoy your weekend, my friend.

Looks like your first Friday worked out well. I like the idea Susanne left of the little tent. I bet Cameron would love it!

Can I just say that it absolutely blows my logical chocolate induced mindless fog of a brain to think that ANYONE ON EARTH would have a baby bottle full of M and Ms next to their very own bed for ALMOST THREE WHOLE YEARS.

FOR PETE'S SAKE, BARB, I WOULD HAVE EATEN THOSE THINGS IN ABOUT 6 NANOSECONDS!!!!

YES I'M YELLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to see your new shop!

A few of my friends found out the sexes of their babies this week so I have started shopping. Jeff says I need to be on a good budget since we have over 15 babies coming to us in 4 months. One friend-triplets, another twins and the rest just having babies. Fun times in our house!

Love the picture of Avery and Cameron, my brother was alway right there when I was a baby too. Super sweet

I'm telling you what, that Cameron is the best weapon in your arsenal of entertaining Avery! Caiden and Grayson are Addison's best toys :)

And you'll never have enough products ready to satisfy your demand, which is a great problem to have! Unless you start crocheting Kleenex covers. Then you might be okay :)

I hope you sell some cute fleece blankets too. So precious, and fun! Don't you love the way big brothers love their little sisters? Well that is until they start messing with their legos and then it might be a different story. Enjoy this special time with them, it seems to fly by so quick.

That pic of Cameron and Chelsea is priceless! Sure looks like Cameron is back in good health - such sweet pink cheeks.

I can't wait to see your new shop! And I sure admire (and envy) all the ENERGY you seem to have. A day with my granddaughter and I'm exhausted. :-)

God's blessings on all you do!

Looking at Cameron asleep on the couch reminded me of when I had Nicholas.....I had the same problem, suddenly he was in Jasmine's spot and she had nowhere to go LOL
She also slept on the couch with Nicholas close by and the pugs with her. I loved it.

Good luck with your shop, I hope that you are extremely successful.

Hugs

I'll bet that your week was BUSY! Glad that it went well. I can just imagine Cameron's reaction to Avery in his bed. It looks as though he was able to get a good nap in on the couch.

Can't wait to see your shop. It's almost like we are all waiting for the "baby" to be born.

Chelsea is such a good pal! I'm glad Cameron didn't get too upset that his bed has been pre-empted! He did great on the couch.

We took Kristen and the 4 girls to the zoo yesterday - beautiful, really warm day. The babies did great. We're exhausted! Pictures to come.

Check out all the latest stories on Kristen's new post (finally!)

I can hardly wait to see your store.

Barb: Since I'm only on my first cup of coffee, I had to give that bottle a closer look. How funny that hubby vetoed the pooper pan idea! Your photo reminds me of Barbara Cowsill--yes--"The Cowsills".

Barb, you are SUCH a wonderful grandmother!
You know what my mom does for napping toddlers at her place? She takes the couch cushions off and lets the munchkin in question sleep on those on the floor - voila, a comfy bed with no risk of falling.

Jess said...

Yes I think that it is expected of grandmas to know it ALL...I call mom all the time and Jason calls his mom all the time with questions and just advice needed. I'm so glad that things are going so well for you. I will definately be checking the shop out..Have a good week
