I'll bet you were wondering if I was ever going to post a photo of Cameron again. Right? How could I not? He's only the cutest little two year old in the whole wide world.
Oh, I'm kidding. I totally know your two year old grandson (or son) (or little brother) is cuter. :-)
There's so much going on in this photo, I don't know where to start. LOL
But first, this was a GREAT day. At 9:30 this morning, Cameron's blood glucose was at 367. That's way high, people. Normal is 70 to 80, although his diabetes specialist is happy if we can keep his levels around the 100 mark. Anyway, I managed to give him exactly the right amount of insulin and two hours later, his count was 85! That's a huge, huge victory. This would make you smile: all I have to say is, "Hey, Cam. Let's do a shot." And he walks over to my ottomon and bends over. Just like that. He also insists I let him hold the monitor and collect the little drop of blood on his finger, when I test him. He's two. Unbelievable.
So Cameron's wearing the pink eyelash yarn hat I made for his little sister, Avery, who's going to be born in nine days (Monday, March 3rd at 7:30 a.m., in case you were trying to forget LOL). You get to guess: does that little stocking cap REALLY stretch, or did Barb totally blow it on the size? Go ahead. Guess. :-) By the way, Cameron doesn't know boys don't usually wear pink hats. Yet.
Notice he's sitting in his high chair. He's pretty much over that and getting way too big and I don't know what I'm going to do. My dining room chairs have wheels on them and besides, they're fabric. Sigh.
Anyway, today I discovered he loves, loves New England clam chowder. And he loves to dip his bread and butter in ketchup. Gag. But it's OK. I checked the nutritional values on the label and there's 2% of an adult's daily requirement of vitamin A in a tablespoon of ketchup (and a smidgen of lycopene - and pretty much nothing else). That's good enough for me. He can have all the ketchup he wants.
And today I sat and watched him and I'm completely convinced, he's as ambidextrous as he can be. He doesn't seem to favor one hand over the other and does everything equally well with either hand, including eating with a spoon and coloring. I think that's great.
About the coloring. Chelsea runs away now when she sees him pick up his crayon bowl. She didn't like it one bit when I had to rub all that stuff off her a couple of weeks ago.
Chelsea dropped like a fly today when Cameron went home. She just completely flopped herself on the floor and passed out. Those two played really hard today.
OK. I'll stop talking about my favorite (and only) grandbaby now.

That little Cameron is a sweetheart! Bless his heart - how mature for a 2 year old to handle his shots and testing the way he does. I know that makes it easier on all the adults in his life too.
I can't wait to see his baby sister - bet you can't either!:)
Okay, come clean ---- What's with the monkey that's face down in the rocking chair? Is he in some diabolical time out, or what? ;o)
And when I saw Cam in that cap for some reason I thought of the Cat in the Hat! Don't ask me why, I'm just weird I guess.
There's a little package on its way to your house, dear heart. ;o) Should be there about Monday, but more likely Tuesday, or so the postmistress told me....
Love you!
Diane
LOL! Too, too cute. What a brave boy he is with all his diabetes treatments.
I think I might have suggested a small table and chair set for Cameron before. I tell ya my kids loved theirs! Or you could always put a towel over your dining room chairs or maybe just get a special chair with no wheels or cloth that will be just Cameron's when he's there.
How lucky that boy and his little sister are to have such a loving and concerned grandma. I know you are blessed, Barb, but it's clear to me that you are going to have grandkids who are so close to you. I think that's special. I'm still very close with my grandma today.
BTW, when is Avery going to be born? I seem to have remembered it was some time in March, but I'm fuzzy. LOL.

Oh, I just saw Susanne's comment. My kids loved their little table and chairs. I put them right in the kitchen by ours. Clutter, yes, but also, no fights over being/not being in the high chair.
Cameron is a doll! He looks so cute in his sister's cap, too.
My daughter could use both hands to do anything, even a beautiful handwriting. But her kindergarten teacher said she needed to choose. She didn't care which one she used, but choose one or the other. My daughter chose the left hand - only the 3rd left handed one in my husband's family.
Way to go on getting that blood sugar just right! I know it's a battle, and every little victory is quite an accomplishment. He's a trooper . . . as are you! :)
I wonder if young moms could give advice as to what chair they use at this transition time - we bought one of those 'high chairs' that you put on a regular chair and strap around the back, but I think there are a lot of booster chair options out there. And like Diane, I noticed that little monkey in the time out chair too!
What a cute preview of what his little sister might look like!
I am so glad he's adjusting so well to the diabetes tests and shots.
I have, what we call, a 'youth chair' that I've used for my kids and now use for my nephew. I got it at an unpainted furniture store. Hard to explain, but it looks like a junior size, long legged regular chair. It stores nicely tucked in the corner of the kitchen when we're not using it, but it's a perfect size to bring the kids up to the table and tuck them between two adult chairs.
I can't believe how grown-up Cameron looks! He's past the baby stage and very handsome:)
WOW! Cameron is growing so quickly! And is it really only 9 days until little Miss Avery arrives??!!!!
I am so excited for all of you! :-)
Any friend of New England clam chowder is a friend of mine :-)
I am trying to get back into blogging, but so much has gone on I have been moving slowly. I still keep up with your blog. Each day I try to make a few more comments on the blogs. Glad to hear that Cameron is doing well with his diabetes. Kids are amazing. My 4 year old has trouble with his blood sugar and they call it pre-diabetes. I think you either are or you are not. Anyway they expect he will be diabetic someday. Cameron is so adorable and growing so fast. New England clam chowder yum mo!
That was an amazing drop in blood sugar in such a short time.
He looks "pretty in pink" (handsome?)
In any case, adorable beyond words!!

My grandma had 10 children and 36 grandchildren and every single one of us ate at the table on this:

My aunt still has that stool in her kitchen, sitting next to her phone area. It is great because with the little stepping stool pulled out at the bottom, a toddler can climb up on his own.
You can also try just taking the tray off the high chair and putting him right up to the table. That is what we did with our kids.
Hey Barb,
Since we are fresh out of two year olds in our family I'm going to give you this one - he is the cutest two year old.
You're doing a great job with the very difficult balancing act diabetes is. We know it well. It really touches my heart to think of him so cheerfully enduring all those pricks.
It's getting really exciting around your house. That baby girl will be here soon.
Have a blessed weekend - you might want to grab a nap or something :-)
First of all your beef stew is almost the same way I make mine...too funny. And New England Clam Chowder....not too sure about that one. But if he likes it...go for it.
Oh Barb thank goodness you got Cams blood glucose level under control
I love anything seafood YUM!!
Jen
I can totally agree with you that Cameron is the cutest 2 year old I know.....cause Parker is 3 now.
hee,hee
`hugs
I love your posts about Cameron and Chelsea, Barb, they are so cute and make me laugh. I know you are just so excited about your new little granddaughter's arrival! We are looking forward to hearing all about it.
Oh, I know a good solution! My toddlers would eat their lunches at a toddler sized table with toddler chairs - Ikea has some cute ones that are very affordable.
9 days but who's counting anyways :) SO SO SO excited for you!
Love the pink hat on Cameron - he rocks it! :)

Cameron sounds just like Hunter! He uses both hands, too... its sort of confusing to me, because I never know which hand to hand him things in. I have, however, noticed that he is left leg dominant ... if that matters. He always goes up or down the stairs with his left foot first. That would totally throw me off!!!
Its amazing how children have the ability to adjust far better than humans (his diabetes)...
