Yesterday was the kickoff of Katrina's Fall Into Reading Challenge and I'm in! I checked in first thing this morning and my gosh, there are already way over a hundred participants linked up.
By now everyone knows Katrina's encouraging us to set some reading goals and then do our best to meet them. So if you're a reader, post your plans and go link your post at Katrina's place.
The links are HERE.
You can click on the pretty graphic at the beginning of this post to read all about this challenge, including some great prizes and giveaways as autumn progresses.
Here's my plan. Fiction first, of course. LOL
These are the books I already have but my list includes two or three I'm either waiting for or plan to buy soon.
Peace Like A River by Leif Enger - recommended ages ago by my niece Sarah. I started this book last spring but got sidetracked so I'm determined to start it again and finish it this time!
Harvesting the Heart by Jodi Picoult - I own all Jodi's books and this is the only one I haven't read.
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, both highly recommended by my sister Bev.
In Search of Eden by Linda Nichols - recommended by Lauren at Baseballs & Bows.
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen - the newest "Barnes & Noble Recommends" selection.
These Boots Weren't Made for Walking by Melody Carlson - highly recommended by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story.
Violet Dawn, Coral Moon and Crimson Eve by Brandilyn Collins - the first three books in the Kanner Lake Series, also highly recommended by Susanne. I found Coral Moon for $3 at my used book store. I plan to go to Amazon.com to find Violet Dawn and Crimson Eve is due in bookstores this month. The fourth and final book in the series, Amber Morn, is due out next April. You know me. Have to read them in the right order! LOL
Can't Wait to Get to Heaven by Fannie Flagg - I love Fannie Flagg.
Miss Marple Complete Short Stories by Agatha Christie - one of the most fun things I've found at my used book store in ages. I found this Saturday - $3 y'all! I love, love Miss Marple.
And two I don't have yet but will:
Uncharted by Angela Hunt - again, recommended by Susanne. Honestly, I get the best ideas from her!
After the Leaves Fall by Nicole Baart - this is Nicole's debut novel and I won a copy of her book in a giveaway at Carrie's place, With all that I've been given. I'm really looking forward to its arrival. You can read a review and an author interview at Carrie's link.
Believe it or not, I do occasionally read nonfiction. :-)
Forever Erma by, well, Erma. Erma Bombeck - a sweet gift sent to me by Lynne at Lynne's Little Corner of the World.
Collision Course by Alvin Moscow - the story of the collision of the Andrea Doria and the Stockholm, and The Titanic, End of a Dream by Wyn Craig Wade - both of these books are also gifts sent to me by Lynne.
3 Seconds - The Power of Thinking Twice by Les Parrott, PhD - won in a giveaway at Lauren's place, Baseballs & Bows. The back cover says, "Give your first impulses a second thought - and transform your world." I need to read this book!
Down Came the Rain by Brooke Shields - not recommended by Tom Cruise, LOL, but sent to me by my sister Bev, for my birthday.
Knitting School - A Complete Course by Sterling Publishing Company, purchased at Michael's three years ago, and staying on my list until I by gosh teach myself to knit!
And finally, Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0, Classroom in a Book, the official training workbook from Adobe Systems because my sweet husband bought me the program and the textbook THREE MONTHS AGO and I still haven't even loaded the program. There's just something wrong with me.
There you have it - my fall reading goals. I will read all these books and you know what? Once I start going through all the lists linked over at Katrina's place, I'll bet you anything I add to this pile!

Barb,
I hope you'll enjoy reading After the Leaves Fall--it was mailed last Tuesday, so should arrive very soon if it hasn't already.
I also have Kite Runner on my list, along with about half of the other fall readers!
Barb,
I love Melody Carlson, I have not heard of that book though. Let me know how you like it. Plus Fannie Flagg, as I may of already told you is one of my favorite writers. I need to just go out and buy that book b/c it is never available at the library. I try not to purchase too much b/c well, Jeff would have a heartattack but really, isn't money better sent on something like books than just a bunch of useless junk?
Have fun reading!
Susan
I get good ideas from other readers too, including a few I have written down from your list.
Happy reading!
It always delights me that so many of us bloggers love the same books! I've read a few on your list - I think you are in for a good fall reading time!
These Boots... is an awesome book .I really enjoyed it. If you like chick lit, you'll love it.
I keep seeing Peace Like a River on people's lists -- I will have to check it out!
I keep a running list of to-be-read books from other people's lists, too.
Happy reading!
I LOVE Miss Marple! I do NOT love the recent Miss Marple movies, however.
I'm making a note of a few of your recommended books, since I'm sort of out of reading ideas right now...
I love seeing what everyone else is reading! There looks to be a lot of good books on your list. I'll have to add some of those to my "Winter Reading Challenge" :D
I hope you really love the Fannie Flagg and the Peace LIke a River book as much as I did.
That is quite a list! Good luck!
Okay, now I'm really nervous. I hope you like them.
I can't believe the pile of non-fiction you have. I struggle just to get through one in the three months. I start off with a bang and then totally run out of steam about halfway through. Although I loooove Erma, too, so I bet I could get through that one fast.
anything by Angela HUnt is fabulous, you need to read her series Heavenly Daze she wrote with Lori Copeland..Have fun with that reading
Wonderful list! You'll LOVE "Can't Wait to Get to Heaven." :-)
kerri
*sigh* I'd love to join in, but I'd probably get one book done in a year.
By the way, wanted to let you know that I tried your Chicken Divan recipe.....SO, SO SO, SO GOOD!!! My husband even ate it like a pig and that doesn't happen too often with my cooking (or lack thereof.)
So, thanks for posting that! YUM!
Sounds like a great list, Barb! I think I might add a couple of these titles to my "to read" list.
I really enjoyed Peace Like a River (probably one of my all time faves) and The Time Traveler's Wife. Enjoy your reading!
Happy Fall!
I am so glad you are enjoying In Search of Eden! We have several books on our list that are the same. I just finished the Kite Runner, and it was a wonderfully written book. Happy Reading!
Wow that's a lot of books Barb! I have Adobe as well and still haven't figured out how to use it. Maybe you can teach the rest of us!!
Laura
Great book selection Barb!!!I'd so love to learn adobe *I have to look on ebay*Have fun reading all those books!!
As usual I havent even heard of many of the authors on your list. I will tell you however, anything written by the Parrots is going to be good. I'll have to come back to yours when I finish mine up - maybe a winter reading list? xoxox
I see some of my favorite authors on your list! I have 3 Seconds on my list as well (I won it in a giveaway too). Lots of the same books are showing up on the fall reading lists that i feel left out and am going to have to put them on my TBR list.
Similar books on my list! Kite Runner is coming out in the theaters in November! I would like to see how they put this book on the big screen!! Loved the book!
Happy reading...
I have not heard of any of these, and reader that I am, I cannot believe it. That's a lot of books! I read all the time, but don't set goals - I don't like to fail, so I just don't aspire. Like New Year's resolutions.
I haven't read Fannie Flagg's stuff, but she loves Ann B. Ross, who I am reading now - Miss Julia. Great fun.
Hmm. Maybe I should just take a picture of the books sitting beside my favorite reading chair! That would be a goal right there - to finish them. Then I should go to the books by my bed, the ones under my t.v. - all of which are waiting to be read. I'll never catch up.
Oh wow, there are so many great books on here! I can't wait to hear what you think of a lot of these. I've read the Boots one by Melody Carlson and loved it - very light and easy to read. I want to hear about those Brandilynn Collins books too. I had trouble with The Time Traveler's Wife, so I'll be interested to see if you love that one. And I've heard about Garden Spells too. Oooh, so many good ones here :)
Have fun and Happy Reading!!!
LOL Barb, welcome to The Club of Never-Ending Reading Wish Lists! I'm there with ya, sister. One thought ~ have you looked in to Paperback Swap? (www.paperbackswap.com) It's quickly becoming one of my favorite resources. :)
Blessings,
Trish
The book by Sarah Addison Allen is bound to be great--it's in the name! :)
And hooray on teaching yourself to knit! You can do it!! And then you can make your newest grandbaby, particularly if it's a "she," the cutest baby hats EVER. I'm finishing a fall hat for Addison that's an apple--as much as I love crocheting, knitting just seems to have cuter designs!
Happy Fall :)
I'm going to read Peace Like a River, picked up Kite Runner in library last week but put it back for some reason! Really want to read Uncharted too! I bet you won't have a problem with the knitting because you're so crafty. Good list Barb!
What a great deal on the Miss Marple book -- I'm a big Miss Marple fan, too! You have lots of great-sounding books on your list -- I've been curious about 3 Seconds, and I really enjoyed The Time Traveler's Wife. Forever Erma is on my "someday" wishlist -- I've browsed through it at the bookstore, and I've always enjoyed her writing.
So glad you joined Fall into Reading!
I have photoshop 5.0 also, and STILL haven't figured it out. Very frustrating!!!
I just read Can't Wait To Get To Heaven and you will love it:-)
It was the first thing I read by Fannie Flagg but she is a new favorite of mine:-)
I will be curious to hear your thoughts on some of those novels.
I liked The Time Traveler's Wife more than I expected to. I thought it an odd book but strangely addictive.
