TO DEFEND MY OCD-ness

Introducing my friend, Sheri, also Chelsea's vet. Sheri is holding her drapes. Yep. I spent two days doing nothing else and they're done! The sewing machine is put away, Sheri's very happy and I'm over the moon to have this project finished. She came over to pick them up yesterday and we spent the whole afternoon having coffee and catching up with each other...one of the nicest afternoons I've had in ages.

I had to forego my trip to the grocery store, however. So I'll be doing that today. I plan to make the jalapeno garlic tilapia tonight and post the recipe with photos tomorrow.

Here's where I defend myself. Apparently the general consensus is that I could benefit from a little counseling because I (gulp) iron my sheets. This is what my sheets look like right out of the dryer. They're 100% cotton. They're really nice sheets but they look tacky, tacky, tacky if I don't iron them.

When I make my bed, I fold my top sheet down over my comforter, like this. Anyone can see this looks a lot nicer than it would if I didn't iron my sheets.

Here's one of the three sets of pillow shams I put on my bed. The one on the left is ironed. The one on the right isn't. Look at the difference in the size alone after I iron them. I ask you, could anything be more obvious?
Clearly, I must also iron my shams.

I just thought I'd assure you I don't do this because I think it's fun. I just couldn't possibly stand all that wrinkly cotton all over my bed in my pretty bedroom. I probably COULD use a little counseling, but not because...
...I iron my sheets.

:-)

Here's a shot of the sky, taken outside my back door, yesterday. Look at those gorgeous clouds! How I would love to borrow that guy's RV, the one on the other side of the fence.

This is a shot out my front door. I've mentioned that our view out the front window is the Grand Mesa. This photo leaves a little to be desired but I didn't feel like moving Rob's truck and there's not much I can do about all the new construction going on in our neighborhood. Still, off in the distance is the Grand Mesa. It's difficult to explain how big it is but if you can imagine that there are over two hundred lakes on the Grand Mesa, you begin to realize it's huge.
It's just beautiful when you drive all over it.

Chelsea's enjoying our beautiful weather, too. It's so nice here I have the patio doors open all day long now. That could change in a heartbeat. This is, after all, Colorado. But for now I'm loving this gorgeous preview of spring.

I'll be back with that recipe tomorrow. I can't wait to make this dish. If it's as good as Johnny Carino's, my word, I'm going to be thrilled that I can make it at home.
Cross your fingers about the Italian nachos, too.

I'm loving this day!

I hear you on the sheets.

If I were you, I would only iron the part that shows. But I'm sneaky like that.

:P

Psssst. Lei. Shhhhhh. (me, too).

*wink*

Hi, Barb! Glad you are back. I sure have known what you were doing totally immersed in a project.

I do not blame you for ironing your sheets. Maybe we shouldn't have given you such a hard time. ;0)

Have a GREAT weekend!

Well, I was just popping over to say hi and tell you I'd been missing you (not to make you feel pressured, just to let you know) and saw this post, which must be so new it hadn't come through on Bloglines yet.

Wow, I can't believe you got those curtains done so fast! I hope mine go as quickly whenever I do find fabric I want. I've had to put it on the back burner for a week or so. I know it feels great to have that done.

That view from your front door is gorgeous.

Susanne said...

Yay! The curtains are done!

I come from a family of sheet ironers, too. However that chain was quickly broken with my sister and I. :v)

Love your view.

Don't let them make fun of you for ironing your sheets, I do the same. I love a clean look on my bed, I iron the top that folds over and the pillow cases. Have a beautiful Friday enjoy the beautiful blue sky. I am heading out in a few minutes to spend my anniversary weekend chersihing my husband without the internet and work stuff dancing in my head.

Yay, you finished the drapes! Great job.
I agree, the sheets look better ironed. Your view is gorgeous!
We're flying to the Colorado mountains soon to go skiing but it's such nice weather here I sorta hate to get all cold again!

Tammy said...

Oh, I love the picture of the clouds and you are so blessed to have the beautiful view of the Grand Mesa!
We recently had springlike weather, as well...but the rain and chill is back. I guess that's March, though, in the northwest.
Ok...and I forgive you for not coming by my mom's 80th birthday post now that I see those drapes! ;)heehee Now, I'm off to clean house since she's coming tomorrow...but I won't be ironing the sheets! :)

Blessed Beyond Measure said...

Okay, I can see that the sheets need ironing. So I'll avoid buying them, but they are darned pretty. As is the view out your door, and I'd be celebrating with margaritas for having the window treatments done. Beautiful!

Tonya said...

The sheets are gorgeous and I totally understand on ironing the shams too. However, on the sheets I would only be ironing the fold-over part....I just read that is your little secret too!

Love the view from your front door.

Oh, I am SOOOOO laughing right now. Lyric snickers at me for ironing sheets and pillowcases but I just can't help it! This is funny because of the two of us, she is really the one more compulsive about housekeeping stuff, even though she works fulltime and I am at home all day. SHE's the wonder woman! But yeah, I have to iron those bed linens or I can't sleep...truth be told, I only iron the part of the sheets that is likely to show when the bed is made, but if I had unlimited time I would iron the whole king-size thing!

You go, girl :-)

OCD self-soothing habits are fine as long as they don't interfere with everyday life. So iron on, baby, iron on!

I can't wait for our trip to CO this summer! It's been so long since I've been there...the dry, the pretty, the impossibly blue skies, the absence of mosquitos, the blessed temperatures! AHHHH!

Shalee said...

Yay on finishing those awful to work with drapes!

Ummm, yes, you are a little too OCD to come to my house for a sleepover. I iron nothing if I can help it (but sometimes I can't.)

And we're about to have 70's! weather, so I NEED that recipe to grill out! Tease.

Cindy said...

Oh, Barb...Colorado is so, so beautiful! Why can't *I* live there?

Andrea said...

Yeah - the drapes are finished! (And really pretty too!)

I'm SO jealous you are able to have your patio doors open already. I live way over here where it's still too cold. :( Soon...very soon.

I'll leave the ironing to you. Although those are really pretty! :)
Have a good weekend, friend!

Barb I loved the pictures, you live in a beautiful neighborhood :)

I'm IN LOVE with your sheets and shams, they're gorgeous....I need to find some like that for myself LOL

I won't even mention ironing because you know how much I love it, I'm weird like that hehehe

Have a wonderful day,
Hugs,

Barb what a fun post. I must say your sheets look very pretty but I'm happy if I get my sheets washed never mind ironed...lol.

I am so so jealous of your beautiful weather. I'll be posting a shot of my front yard and the five feet of snow today just to maybe drum up some sympathy. Want to come to my pity party...lol. I want spring!!!!!!!

I know you're so glad that those drapes are finished and I have to admit in spite of myself, those ironed sheets and shams sure do look pretty. A little OCD really pays off.

Lauren S. said...

My mom used to iron my pajamas and even the laundry bag I brought home from college. MY LAUNDRY BAG. You would have my mom's seal of ironing approval!

Bunny Trails said...

Well of course, now that we see what your sheets look like, it all makes sense. That's probably why I don't buy such beautiful sheets - LOL!

It's fun to see the "other side" of the Rockies, since I'm on the east side here at the foot of Pikes Peak. I love the Rockies and take WAY too many pictures of them. Especially when it's sunny, blue skies, and they have snow on them. I also take too many pictures of Kissing Camels with Pikes Peak in the background since it's just down the road. It's so awesome to see God's handiwork! I never cease to be amazed.

Beck said...

What is this "iron" thing you speak of?
Your shams do look lovely, though... maybe I should change my no-iron tune...

annie said...

I am 37 (ssh don't tell anyone/people think me and my daughter amanda (16) are sisters and I want to keep it that way :) )
but, I still take my laundry challenges to my mom! Is that pathetic or what? She loves a good laundry challenge... things that require laying flat, special ironing. She brings it back looking perfect and smelling wonderful. I hope that when my house is not so full of kids running around, taking them to tumbling, track, therapy, etc. I too can iron my sheets and help my grown kids out with their laundry challenges. I respect you and mom for the care you take in your homes.
Have a great Friday.

It's gorgeous here too. Beautiful. I took Miller to the park for lunch he is sleeping right now.....I wore him out...enjoy the sunshine.

Barb, just go ahead and iron away, your sheets do look much better ironed. I love Chelsea, the mountain view, and the beatiful sky in your area. Now that is a blessing indeed! Thanks for sharing.

I'm so glad you got the curtains finished!

What beautiful pictures! Congrats on getting the drapes done, one lucky girl. Can I hire you when I move to my new house?? (just kidding;)

I loved the outside pictures, looks like Florida there (except we don't have mountains).

Blessings.

Christina said...

So happy to hear the drapes are done. I'll bet they will look really nice when they are hung.

I love the sheets. You are a good girl to iron them so your bed can look all nice and cozy. Half the time I'm too lazy to make my bed uness I know someone will see it, like maintenance.

What an awesome view you have. One thing I don't get from living inside the crater is a view of mountains. The crater looks ugly and old, not majestic like the one's you have, Enjoy the view.

Hi Barba-My DH also likes the sheets folded over the comforter. I have a question for you. Do you put the wrong side of the sheet (i.e. the part with the seams)facing the mattress or the comforter? My husband says I should put it wrong side facing the comforter so that when the edge is folded over the right side shows. Does this make sense?

barb - I just now found your blog by way of Tonja (Gatherings). I missed your party - I'm sorry. But I did read all about it. And you missed my pajama party - come over to my blog and read all about it.

It's so nice to find other of "that certain age" though I love reading about the young mommies too.

I'll be back!

I'm glad you're having a great day. Mine is pretty good too. The wayward one called me on her way to school to wish dear OLD mom a happy birthday. Everything else is gravy.

You do know that one of these days, I'm going to have to come get an up close and personal view of the Grand Mesa. Gotta warn you, though. We don't iron our sleeping bags. ;o)

Have a blessed weekend!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaa you did it!! Sheri sure does look happy with her curtains:-) I can just imagine how very glad you are to have them over and done with!

All my sheets are permanent press but if I do have a few pieces of cotton, I iron them because I can't stand wrinkled cotton! lol

Omigosh, what a wonderful view of the Grand Mesa you have...how majestic it is!!

Chelsea sure looks like she's enjoying herself...I wish some of that Spring like weather would make it my way!! It's supposed to rain this weekend, though, so hopefully it will get rid of some of the snow!

Hugs xoxo

I'm laughing because I thought of you today. My MIL sent me some new sheets for my birthday present and when I read the washing instructions I chucked when it said "No ironing required." (Not that I would have anyway but I can see why you do it...you are not the only one in the world that does it either so I'm sure your in good company!

Glad your enjoying the great weather, it's been nice up here in ID too.

I used to iron our pillowcases, especially when they're wrinkled. I love the look of crisp pillowcases.

Your blog is gorgeous! There is so much to see and read. I have really enjoyed the blog party!

sentimentsbydenise said...

Barb -
don't let 'em give you grief about ironing your sheets! My mom taught me to iron by having me iron pillowcases when I was just barely tall enough to reach the ironing board. To this day, ironing and doing laundry are my favorite household duties. I even worked in a dry cleaners as a teenager (which is where I met my husband! *wink*).
I love knowing this about you - it's endearing!

It sounds like you've had such a wonderful "almost Spring" kind of day. I'm getting jealous over here! I would love to see a snow-less ground and a beautiful blue sky again..how far is your country from my country?! ;)

Your sheets are so pretty..I love the edges and the detail on them. I would iron them too! (shh)

Jalepeno garlic tilapa!? Ohh boy I can't wait to see that recipe! Sounds like something that would go over fantastically in this household.

Hope your weekend is as nice as today was! =)

You are not alone....I think there might be a support group out there for us sheet ironers....lol hey there seems to be a group forming right before our eyes......YIKES!!!!!
I love the pictures of the sky....I live in a state that we have had gray sky's for more days than I like to count.....I am suffering from deprived sun disorder Hey is that a support group for that....Well I have babbled enough.. Nice to meet ya

Southern Girl said...

Congratulations on getting the curtains done! Your friend looks extraordinarily pleased with them. :)

Okay, if I had sheets as beautiful as you do, I'd probably iron them, too, expecially if they were going to show. There's just no way I can bring myself to iron my mismatched thread-bare ones.

Can't wait for the tilapia recipe! That's what I had for supper tonight, but I bet what you make will be better.

There is not one thing wrong with ironing sheets or shams, OR Febreezing a dog! You are you and that is why we all come here and hang on your every word. Life is prettier at your house! Inside....and OUT. My word, that view. Lucky you! Isn't spring just WONDERFUL??!!

Mishel said...

I am with you on this one...I iron my sheets too! If I don't have time to do the bed sheets, I at least iron my pillow cases. : ) And the pics of your view are beautiful!!

Renee said...

Okay, so I am just curious, when your kids were little did you find time to iron your sheets then too? Never mind - I know you did - didn't you? I am with Lei - though - I think I would only iron the part that shows!cmpbz
As for the curtains! They looks beautiful! I need a friend like you on this side of the mountains!;-)

Hugs Sweet Barb!

Yippee! They are done! I was wondering what became of that project.

If you get bored, I have two or a hundred things here with the new house. I think it was cleaned by a crew of 15 year olds. Ack.

Have to go read the Meandering for the week I Have missed you so.

I typed out a long comment, and poof, its gone. Oh well, I wanted to tell you your sheets and shams look beautiful. I am so bad that I actually iron almost all my children's clothes. It is mainly because I hang dry them to perserve life. I have to do a quick iron or otherwise they would look like your before shams. Actually, many of their things last for years of wear as I often pass down to friends.
What a beautiful Colorado day! Skip and I can't wait to get back this summer. I told him we may have to make a little detour and say hello to you. Chelsea is a celebrity in our home after all. Have a wonderful weekend.

JD said...

I LOVE your sheets!! I would iron that part, too (I first thought you meant you ironed the whole sheet!). I iron my sham covers, too. I used to fold down the top sheet like you, but now that I'm working full-time and am busy with volunteer work, it all gets covered! :-) Can't wait to see that talipia recipe.

Peach said...

Barb, I totally understand the sheet thing, but I'm with Bev and won't be buying any like that ever.

I'm about ready to ditch my comforter because it shows too many wrinkles because of the way it it stitched. I am NOT ironing the comforter every morning.

Gorgeous weather! We've been having some, too. I know Colorado can be fickle, so enjoy those moments when you can : )

Mama Lily said...

I would totally iron those shams and top of the sheet too! It just looks nice and crisp that way. I'm glad you're enjoying such beautiful weather. We are too for the last two days, not warm enough to open doors and windows though. So glad spring is on the way.
blessings,

That photo and view of the mountains is breathtaking!! I would love to have that view every day. Actually my love and yours for the ocean would be a toss up.
Thanks for all your hard work in sharing those recipies. I live right up the road from Johnny Corrino's and hardly ever go there, but I may try those nachos if I do, they look yummo as Rachel Ray would say.
Have a great day Barb, Love ya.

Just dropped by to say "hi". Glad the drapes are done! I know that was a big project. Huge. Like cleaning tile grout in 5 bathrooms huge. So congratulations! Your Tilapia looks fabulous - I'll be sure to show the pictures to Mitch... he'll appreciate them when he's eating his Cocoa Pebbles.
Have a wonderful week!

Iron the sheets?! *sigh*

I thought I was something else because I started ironing my husband's handkerchiefs!

Won't that sham smooth out once it's plumped by a pillow?

And won't it work to just crease the sheet against the wrinkle?

I'm kidding...if my sheets had that pretty trim, I'd iron them too.

I iron sheets, table cloths, even dish towels sometimes, but not because I like to. I like the way they look when they have been done.

Love all the pictures you post. That view is to die for! Even with Rob;s truck there. I should share the view out my front door sometime. There's no comparasion.
