Because I love you....

Ummm...I don't like chocolate. That's not to say I HATE chocolate. I just don't love it like you all do. I know. I'm "different" and you're very kind to be my friend in spite of my little problem.

You are going to totally, completely LOVE this cake and it's simple. If you've never had Kahlua, it's a coffee liqueur and it's what gives this cake a distinctly different flavor than your old run-of-the-mill chocolate cake. Also, this is the most moist cake I've ever made. Wonderful.

KAHLUA CAKE

1 yellow cake mix
1 3.9 ounce package chocolate fudge instant pudding
4 eggs
1 cup water
1 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup Kahlua

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Mix for one minute to combine. Scrape down sides of bowl and mix another minute (on high speed).

Grease or spray bundt (or tube) pan and lightly dust with flour. Pour batter evenly into pan and bake for exactly 38 minutes.

Let cake cool for 10 minutes. Invert onto rack to cool completely.

Yum! Since I gave up chocolate for lent I'll have to wait until after Easter to make this, but I'm putting it in my recipe file :)

Weird about not liking chocolate--I find that I have lost my taste for it through the years and am liking it less and less all the time. I didn't even realize it until about five years ago when I noticed I was looking for my daughter's homemade chocolate chip cookies that had the least chips in them! I prefer to eat the dough before the chips go in LOL

BUT...I think I'll make an exception for chocolate kahlua ;-)

Can't get any simpler. I love that. Looks just wonderful!

Doing the happy dance, five ingredients is much more up my alley than some of the wonderful things you whip up, that I'd rather eat than cook. This I can do, and Don will love every single bite. Can you have kahlua cake for breakfast? Bet if you could, lots of people would go to work in a happier frame of mind! Believe it or not, I've never had kahlua in my entire life.

And the rest of the bottle for the beverage? You know, like milk and cookies...kahlua and cake? I love that you post pictures! I'm going to try it.

Wow, I shouldn't have checked out this post first thing this morning -- I'm thinkin' a slice of that cake for breakfast sounds yummy! Now, I know what to do with the kahlua in our pantry, since we don't drink it, don't know where it came from. Cake!! what a great idea:)
P.S. love the music on your site

As one who cried the whole 45 minute drive home when my husband would not let me bring home a slice of the most decadent chocolate cake I have ever had I cannot understand how anyone cannot love it. In my defense I was pregnant. This cake sounds so easy and delicious, I might just have to try it this weekend.

Glad to here Addison is doing better. Hopefully Sarah will be able to catch up on some rest soon.

Just pass the Kahlua and I think I'll be just fine...

Seriously, I'm making this cake even though someone in our house who shall remain nameless (but it wasn't me!) decided that we need to start in on the SBD again. I'm thinking he meant Monday...

Barb,
Had to comment back that All Creatures Great and Small has been one of my favs too. My grandma bought the books for my brothers when we were younger -- they never touched them, but I read the whole series. It would be nice to revisit them.

Love YOUR new profile photo!

Mmmmm. Not only does that cake sound delish (love Kahlua), but I've discovered another woman in the world does not crave chocolate. Whoo hoo!

Don't get me wrong now. I most certainly will raid my kids' trick-or-treat bags to eat choco,...I mean uh...to check for hazards. But I don't needchocolate to survive.

But Kahlua? Mmmmm, that's good "stuff." I guess I'll have to buy a bottle now. Thanks for the recipe.
BLessings,
~Toni~

I must have gotten your chocolate gene along with mine. In fact, a day like today and I ate more than both our share.

Blessings on your afternoon and always.

I do enjoy chocolate, but I don't prefer a chocolate cake or chocolate ice cream - weird huh? but this cake, this sounds yummy! It's now on my "to make" list!

Although I'm a chocoholic, this cake sounds way too yummy to pass up...I wish I could just reach inside the computer and take a piece, though, instead of trying the recipe. I'm lazy that way...but this one looks almost worth it! :)

Oh I do love chocolate Barb. I have actually given up sweets until after Easter. Of course, right about now I could kill for a chocolate bar. However, I will resist.....and this recipe will get a try once Easter is over!!! Thanks so much.

That sounds delicious! I will have to bake that for my husband soon. (I'm not a huge chocolate lover either). You have the best recipes and I love the pictures that you always post along with them!

Okay, I see your blog this morning-later in the afternoon I ask my mom if she has Kahlua in her pantry, and she does! So I had to go to Wally World today and picked up the choclate fudge pudding and yellow cake and promised hubby I had a special treat for him via A Chelsea Morning and you should of seen his face-he lit up like it was Christmas! He loved the Italian Nachos and the bar-b-q sandwiches-so your recommendations are a hit. Or maybe it was the thought of putting Kahlua in chocolate cake! :)

Barb, I just printed off this cake recipe. Where do I find Kahlua in the grocery store? Never seen it before.

Have you already written about how you stay so thin? Do you eat all the stuff you make? Maybe just a bite or two? Please do share - thanks! You look terrific!

dcrmom said...

O my goodness. YUM!

Barb said...

You may not come back to check, Anonymous, but to answer your question, yes, I do eat all this stuff I cook. I'm not a big eater but I do eat the things I post about. I have to admit I'm not fond of chocolate so I only had a small piece of this cake. Had to try it and it's delicious.

I guess I keep my weight down because I'm constantly on the move. I rarely sit still.
