...what with all this weddin' nonsense."
Have I mentioned that we're planning a wedding? Mandy and Aaron are getting married June 23rd. I haven't posted about it for a while, almost since they got engaged six months ago, because not much has really happened from my standpoint.
Mandy and Aaron have been busy though. They've booked the site, caterer, photographer, dj and their date is confirmed. I can't tell you how nice it is that my soon-to-be son-in-law is a go-getter who wants to be involved in the process.
Mandy's not one to get in a big hurry about things so I've followed her lead. But it's coming down to the wire now and I'm beginning to get involved.
Tomorrow I'll be making their save-the-date cards. Those are going out next week which means, of course, the guest list has to be finalized. The kids brought me the materials for the cards last weekend. I'd love to show them to you after they're done but I won't be able to because last names will be on them and all. I can tell you, however, that they'll be magnetic business-card size so people can stick them on the fridge. And they're white with intertwined hearts and very pretty.
I probably haven't mentioned that David's Bridal opened a store here in Grand Junction recently. Krissy, the matron-of-honor, booked Mandy's first visit for Saturday, February 12th. That's when the fun officially begins and I promise, you'll see some photos from that trip!
Mandy and Aaron are having an outdoor wedding at Enterprise Hall which is perfect. Enterprise Hall is in a beautiful location kind of out in the woods and the main facility is an old, old schoolhouse that's been converted into a very nice events center. I believe it's owned by a couple of old hippies who are down-to-earth enough that they've even got a playground to keep the younger guests busy. With Mandy being a third grade teacher, this site just tickles her fancy. It's my understanding that the guest book will be on the front porch, sitting on an antique school desk.
They decided on an afternoon wedding with a reception that will probably go into the wee hours and only really start to be fun after all us old fogies depart the scene.
They also decided to do a barbecue buffet. There's a rib place here that makes barbecue brisket and ribs to die for and it's quite popular so the food's going to be messy and delicious.
Except for Mandy's gown and the tuxes, this is going to be semi-formal affair. She and Krissy are leaning toward cocktail dresses for the girls in the wedding party. They're hoping the dresses might actually get some use after the wedding instead of ending up where most bridesmaids' dresses end up - in the very darkest reaches of the closet. I believe that Aaron's Mom and I will also wear knee length whatever. Dresses, suits, haven't decided yet but I'm pretty sure at least my wedding outfit is headed for the back of the closet after the event because unless I can find mine at Old Navy, I doubt it'll see the light of day again. Sharon Stone got away with a Gap tee shirt at the academy awards a few years ago. Hmmmmm.
Anyway, things are starting to happen now and it's all starting to seem real.
I also don't know if I've mentioned that Aaron is applying for graduate school on the eastern slope right now, too. He's a practicing psychologist. He works with paranoid schitzophrenics so he gets along with this family quite well, thankyouverymuch. :-) His goal is to teach psychology at the college level so it's off to graduate school for him. What this means, of course, is that shortly after the wedding, Mandy and Aaron will be moving away and she'll be landing a teaching position in an elementary school "over there."
It made me sad at first, but the reality is I believe it's good for a newlywed couple to start their marriage not living too close to either family. It's not like they're moving to Siberia but we certainly won't see them nearly as often as we do now. That's OK as long as they live here again before their first baby arrives. *lol*
So non-wedding related news would be, uh, nada. There's nothing exciting at all going on around here right now. Cameron's been here playing with Papa for three days but he'll be missing in action for the rest of the week. Papa will have to entertain himself now. Speaking of Papa, he's chipper as can be now that he's getting some sleep. He still can't do much but he's in a much better frame of mind about it.
I have a big pot of navy bean soup on the stove today. So all I have to do is whip up some cornbread tonight and plop myself down in front of American Idol with a glass of wine. I'm thinking a white zinfandel with navy bean soup. *snort* (I've been DYING for a reason to type *snort* in a post.)
You may have noticed I'm not posting as much as I have before. I was getting really frustrated with feeling behind all the time so I've decided that I'll give myself some time to catch up with everyone in between the posts I do. Based on this one, you're probably thinking, "Whew. Glad to hear that, Barb, because there's obviously not a lot going on out there in western Colorado right now!"
*big smile*

When my sister-in-law got married she had me in her wedding party. She picked a very lovely dress for us girls to wear. It really was stunning and I would totally wear it again given the right event. Unfortunately, the wedding was right after I had my little guy and had been altered to accommodate, and now its gigantic. I think no matter what, brides maids dresses always end up in the back of the closet.
I'm glad to hear that your husband is doing better. Sleep makes a big difference. He must be having a blast playing with Cameron!
Scott and I moved away from Ky when we got married. It did us a world of good. Not being able to run home everytime we got into an arguement. We learned to depend on one another so well. And got so close. I wouldnt ever give those years up....that is what saved us and helped us to be as strong as we are today.

I sure know where you are coming from!!! My stepdaughter is getting married February 17 and my son is getting May 12, so needless to say, my head is spinning. If it wasn't for missing the actual weddings, I might just sleep for the next few months. No, I know it's a lot to do, but it will be worth it. My son is my baby, so he is my last one. Now I'll just have to look forward to more grandbabies.
Barb,
sounds like good times all around! We want to see pics of the dresses!! A bridesmaid dress that is not hideous or at least impractical is a novalty
glad to hear hubby is getting his sleep!
glad you got to use 'snort', I myself get a kick out of inserting 'snarky' once in a while.
blessings,
Jenny in Ca
*snort!*
:)
I love, love, love weddings and it was so much fun to plan both of my girls' weddings with them. My husband was the officiating minister, so it really was a family affair. I know you're going to have a wonderful time and it all sounds so lovely. It'll be fun to read the progress as you go along.
OH I love to hear about weddings. It is all so exciting. Ah that Navy bean soup sounds good =) Glad to hear you are doing well.
I've told you before that we had two in six months - I was the mother of the bride for both, even one was my son - my Kenyan DIL couldn't have her mom here, unfortunately. It was fun. I was economical, and they were beautiful. I'm glad there are no more, however. Looking forward to pictures!
Tell Aaron I'm holding my breath that he gets in here!
Weddings are such fun and the time to create such beautiful memories.
It all sounds just wonderful and well thought out..
Your posts are always a pleasure to read and like catching up with a good friend.
I've been trying to "find that balance" with blogging and so far seems to be working a bit better for me..
hugs!
I love hearing about weddings and this will be fun to be updated on what's going on with yours! Y'all will have a fun time planning it all.
Yum, soup sounds good!
This post was so much fun to read! I would love to join you for that pot a soup and glass of wine infront of American Idol this evening..a great way to have some 'down' time. I pray that your son in law is able to achieve his dream of teaching at the college level...it's what I do and I absolutely love it...graduate school was grueling...but the rewards were great!!
When you post, I'll read. I don't worry about the number of posts. You have good stuff to say...
I love hearing about weddings. I had such a great time at mine, I would love to do it again! To the same man, of course.'
Enjoy your soup, your wine, your American Idol. I'm sure you'll find many a good reasons to *snort* watching that show...
I have missed you! But, I completely understand.
I loved hearing about her wedding site - sounds beautiful!
A wedding coming soon! It'll be here before you know it! How exciting!
I could never have imagined you "snorting" in a post but I guess now I can say I've seen it all! :vD
The wedding plans sound so fun!!! The school house and barbeque sound just perfect!!!! I loved planning my wedding. I guess I was made for 4 girls, and let's hope 4 weddings! hah:)
I think that's great of you to send them off to a new neighborhood knowing that newly wed's need space. Your one wise Mama:) But I'd have to agree with you, they should move back as soon as the little ones start arriving. You sure sound like a great grandma:)
I had such pithy comments all written out and they disappeared entirely, thanks to the Blogmeister. Now it's up to my brain to re-think.
Okay, I'll just settle for telling you that the navy bean soup sounds really good...and so does the cornbread.
Oh, and I'm so happy that you got to type *snort*. It's the little things in life that make us happy, eh?
You are too cute!!
I am sure that whatever you wear to the wedding will be darling. I just love the sound of the location - so pretty!
Enjoy your soup tonight - sounds yummy!
I'm sure that you'll be elegant as the mother of the bride - what an exciting time for you!
You can still post a picture of the save-the-date cards you're making ... just put a little stip of white paper over the last name and take a photo! Sounds like the wedding plans are coming along just fine!
A wedding! How fun.
It sounds like life is good now. The older I get the more I realize that exciting too often means bad. :o)
Bitter sweet, June 23rd is my wedding anniversary day. Divorce is not yet final and by then I will be divorced more than likely, but I pray these two many precious wonderful years together for a lifetime.
Weddings are great! I have LOTS of nieces and nephews so I have been to quite a few, including those of my siblings; not to mention all the ones I have performed for. I completely understand how weddings take time to plan.
Have a Beautiful Evening my friend!
:-)
I have to begin this comment with: wish I could hear Cameron say cheese pease and Papa.
I just left Bev's blog, and will remember her ideas about clothes and stuff.
That brings me to a question about the wedding. Please ask Mandy if my floor length dress will still be alright, since others will be wearing shorter ones. It's a beautiful outfit, and I got matching shoes. I was so proud of losing weight so to look better in it.
Having the wedding in an educational setting is such a good idea. How like Mandy and Aaron to think of that.
More later. Mom
CONGRATULATIONS to Mandy and Aaron. How exciting.
Did you use to teach? How old were your pupils?
I have my bachelor in early childhood teaching
The venue sounds lovely
Pleased Rob is able get good night sleeps now
I love special occasions like that. I hope it turns out amazing.
This is my first time here and I really like the picture at the top of your blog. It makes me want to find some sand like that and walk in it barefoot (hopefully at a warmer time of year :o)
Andrew (To Love, Honor, and Dismay)
Ooh, weddings are such joyous events! Especially when they are not stressed and it sounds like this one is going well and well planned and will be enjoyed by all. Congrats to the engaged couple!
So glad Rob is getting some sleep and feeling ok. Hope you guys are adjusting to being together so much during his recuperation :)
Enjoy that soup and cornbread, and Idol too. I'm headed into the den to watch it any minute here!
Barb you sound like you are right in yoru element! How nice of you to help out so much. Yes time will fly by. I look forward to hearing about all the wedding plans through a mother's eyes.
Laura
This is soooooo ROMANTIC! sigh! How wonderful! I love the semi-formal...mine was an outdoor wedding as well.
I can't wait to hear more of the plans!
I don't have a clue as to what happened to my photos?! :~?
So, I made a slide show from flickr photos. My View from my home.
So, grab a cup of java and come on over!
Hugs!
Barb, the wedding plans sound so wonderful! I LOVE the idea of a barbecue buffet. Maybe you could provide bibs for everyone. ;)
Can't wait to see pictures from the wedding dress trying on.
Seems like yesterday we were planning my little brother and SIL's wedding -- such a happy time -- and now four and a half years later, we're planning for their first child. Hopefully you won't have as long to wait for another grandbaby. ;)
Barb, you will always treasure this precious time with Mandy. There's something really special about Mother's and Daughter's dreaming and sharing in all the possibilities of planning the wedding!
I just love all your quick, witty, and humorous comments! My hubby and I have just died laughing. Thanks so much! :)
I look forward to hearing all the upcoming wedding plans!!!
Okay, you got my attention with the wedding plan post. I love weddings, showers, receptions-I love all of it. I can't wait to hear all the further details. You made me laugh at the comments about bridesmaid dresses. I have been a bridesmaid 7 times and I do not recall ever wearing the dress more than once. I even chose a very casual, floral print tea-length bridesmaid dress in 1992 when Skip and I married, thinking that it would be worn many times over. Ha Ha, I guarantee you those dresses are now hidden on a rack of a thrift store.
Happy Planning!
The wedding plans sound good so far! : ) My daughter got married in Leadville, CO where her husband is from...but we live in CA. So...planning a wedding in another state was *quite* the challenge to say the least! It was supposed to be an outdoor wedding, but it rained. At least by the end of the day, they were married. : )
Oh, have fun with those wedding plans! It's a lot of work, but so worth it!
So, I see you saw my picture over at Michelle's blog. I must confess, I was having a bad hair day (it wasn't cooperating so I just pulled it all up).
If you want to see more pictures of me, take a look at some of my wedding pictures. You'll see Oronzo in there too, wearing a kilt no less! :)
This is so exciting! Happy planning! After I met my hubby I gave myelf six months to my wedding date, while studying and writing ordination exams! Phew! I barely had a month left to work out the wedding details! The great thing is only I knew what didn't happen the way I wanted it to, but the most important was getting married to a great man provided for me especially by God!
Planning my wedding (and getting married itself) was one of the happiest times of my life! I hope it is for your daughter too. I hope she enjoys and takes in every minute of it. It goes by so fast. I wish her and her soon to be hubby all the happiness in the world!
Navy bean soup -- oh how I miss that! I grew up on beans and rice and cornbread, but my guys don't like beans. It's not really worth it to make it for one person. If we lived close enough I'd ask for a bowlful. :)
How exciting to be planning for a wedding! Looks like everything is proceeding well at this point -- sounds lovely so far.
It was good to hear from you! Always enjoy reading your posts.
O.K....I'm going to try publishing this comment again--having some trouble commenting since I changed over to New Blogger! GRRRR!!!
But--thinking about WEDDINGS makes me feel happy again! Have fun!
Have you discovered www.theknot.com yet? It was a very valuable resource for us as we planned our daughters wedding (August 2005). (http://prayingforaprodigal.blogspot.com/2006/08/happy-anniversary-august-13th-holds.html
We used the Guest List Tool...which really helped us keep the guest list in order! Tracking RSVP's was very easy with this tool...and of course, we had a handy list with all of the addresses when it was time to send thank-you's. Check it out.

Hi!
I have a sister living in Montrose....I was raised in Colorado, hubby born in the Springs---small world.
I'm doing some bloghopping today and trying to meet new people.
I'm going to continue perusing your blog if you don't mind....
...but wanted to stop here and leave you with a Happy Thursday wish---
I was wondering what the latest was with all the wedding preparations! What fun! What a special and exciting time.
Sweet blessings!
Renee
This must be such a fun and exciting time for you Barb. I can't wait to see the pictures you share.
Sounds like a great wedding! Our was "semi-formal" too and it made the day so relaxed and fun! BBQ for wedding food sounds amazing to me! Guests are going to love it!
We don't have tv otherwise I would be watching AI too. Enjoy!
Sure am glad your husband is chipper! It's good to have a happy husband!
-Andrea
Ahhh....weddings. They take so much effort and are over so quickly. Sounds like it's going to be beautiful.
By eastern slope; do you mean my neck of the woods?
Hi Barb~
It's so fun planning a wedding. My youngest sister was married 3 years ago, so we got to be a part of that. I'm not planning to be the mother-of-the-bride for a few more years yet!!
I'm glad Rob is doing better and getting rest. That is so important in the recovery process.
blessings
I love weddings! :) I still remember the excitement of my own not quite 12 years ago!
Mandy's going to make a beautiful bride. She's such a sweet gal...I still miss her blog posts! :)
Thank you for the sweet birthday wishes yesterday, Barb!
xxoo
Sounds like the preparations are in full swing now...I love the idea of an outdoor wedding!! I can just imagine what a beautiful wedding party it will be!! My oldest son Shawn is getting married in April...will post about that tomorrow:-) Hugs xox
I love love the whole wedding phenomena! my daughter got married last April (see my April archived posts to get the low down) and it was SO much fun!! Sounds like its starting to get crazy...but its a fun crazy. definitly post pics as you go along..
my son is getting that look in his eye and that tone in his voice that tells me his current girl may be The One...who knows maybe I'll have anohter wedding in the near future...
I do love weddings Barb!! My 28 year old daughter announced the other day that she has no intentions of getting married before she's 30!! So if it's all right with you I'll live vicariously through Many's wedding for now. It all sounds wonderful. I love the location they've picked out.
I can't wait for pictures. This is going to be great!!
Glad "papa" is feeling better. It's amazing what a good night's sleep will do for the spirit :)
Have a wonderful day.
Barb, I did a wedding post today too... we both have a lot of fun ahead of us and just a month apart. We will have to compare notes and help each other. Enjoy the fun.
Sigh....Sept 8 is my only son's wedding...We'll have lots to talk about.
I'm so glad we're friends.
SOunds like you are having a ball- can't wait to see pics of the big David's day!!
It is a nice offset to having Rob home, I'm sure. Maybe he can become crafty Rob with all the decor that will need to be done, and I'm SURE you two plan to do by hand so it's PERRRRRR-FECTO!
Loving you and wishing I was closer to help.
The barbecue buffet is SUCH a great idea! I love it!
Weddings are so fun to plan--stressful, but fun (especially if you are the creative sort!)
Good luck with all of it, and Congrats to the happy couple!
Planning the wedding sounds like a lot of fun. I bet this is going to be a blast. I love weddings. I don't get to go to many since we live so far away from family and friends, but occasionally we do and we always have so much fun.
Good thing the newlyweds are not moving too far. Especially not Siberia.
That is so funny what you said about Aaron's job working with paranoid schizophrenics and getting along with your family. I'm sure he would get along with most families.
I had a little 'dispute' with my Dad when I told him I wanted to invite his sister to my wedding. At that point Dad and she hadn't spoken for 8 yrs. He said, "If she's coming, I won't be there and you can pay for everything yourself!" So that's what we did. The wedding cost us almost six thousand pounds in 1990 and we didn't invite my Aunt in the end! Dad had agreat time giving me away!
Have a great weekend
HA HA...you crack me up sometimes! "snort"
We just did a wedding back in June...it's a lot of work as you well know. If I know you, this one will be spectacular.
If you have a minute, come meet my brother on My Photo Blog (http://beckie-photoblog.blogspot.com/)
Glad to hear Papa is doing better.
Blessings to you!
Barb, thank you for checkin' up on me! If you go back to my page my post yesterday was full of prayer requests! I figure the most important thing we can do in Blogville is prayer for one another! There are so many out there in need and I know that is at least one thing I can do for them. I love it that so many of us know the Lord and we are all united by that!
In Him, Amy
Re your comment today: being an RA wasn't so bad back then. The girls had to be in by 8:00, believe or not, and study until 10, then lights out. This was the GOOD OLD DAYS! No boys allowed anywhere, except repairmen when they announced "man in the hall" and everyone ran for cover! Oh, my, how things have changed. I would never have wanted my kids in the dorm in a secular university. It paid for room and half board in those days, which I desperately needed.
Good night nurse! 57 comments! You're becoming a Blogging Icon:)
I'd forgotten all about the wedding! (That's what I get, seeing as my 10th anniversary is coming up; I'm getting old, I tell you!) I love the plans so far--the setting sounds amazing! A tad bit more ambiance than my old Baptist church in the middle of the ghetto;)
All right, I'm off to run--literally:)
Love you!!
Sarah
I am so behind on my blog reading, but I loved this post. I can't wait to hear more about the wedding and I know Mandy will be a beautiful bride.
I think you should totally go with the Gap T-shirt. Maybe you could use a Bedazzler to dress it up a little. : )
That wedding location sounds fabulous! Do you think they will live close to your mother?
Good grief, I'm the 61st commentor?! The wedding plans are exciting news, Barb! Sounds like it is going to as perfect for them as can be. I love things tailor made for the individual couple.
Do you think you could cut a little piece of paper & lay over the name and/or other private info to take a picture of the cards? We'll make it without a picture, but just a suggestion if you were really wanting to show us. They sound very pretty, & I had not heard of save the date cards before. It's been a while since I got married! Good idea.
