TAKE ME AWAY!

It's only four o'clock in the afternoon here. Is that too early to go to bed?

Mandy saw her oral surgeon this afternoon to find out why she's in so much pain. Dry socket. I so hoped that wouldn't happen. She's better now that the doctor is on top of it. It was a long, long weekend watching her suffer with this. Hopefully the worst is over now.

Cameron has been here for the past two days so that helps explain why I'm ready for bed so early in the day. :-) I'm amazed every single day how fast he's changing now. He's running all over the place, getting into everything and he's starting to talk. He's picked up some cute words like dada and mama and nana and papa. But he's also learned to sneak up on Chelsea and shout boo! and I'm really amused that he's learned to give me a very serious look and say no! Fun, fun. Because she was here for four days Mandy now knows that when Cameron's here I get to sit down for maybe ten seconds at a time. All you moms out there with little ones, you have no idea how much I admire you. You also have no idea how much I envy your energy!

I've been in the kitchen all day. The beef stew and homemade bread I'd planned for Sunday never happened. I'm not sure I remember what we had Sunday. So today I have the stew simmering on the stove and the bread machine working away. And I just finished a double batch of peanut butter cookies. Rob and Cameron flew through the last batch. Chelsea got a few of them, too, since Cameron shares with her. Sigh.

Tomorrow I'm going to my friend Sheri's house to measure for the living room drapes I'm making her in return for her doing Chelsea's annual exam and shots and license at no charge to me. This isn't the best timing - twelve days before Christmas. But she's been busy and I believe she had some painting to do before she hung her new drapery rods. Anyway, I know she's proud of her brand new home and has her whole family coming for Christmas so if I have to stay up all night until they're done, she'll have those drapes installed before they get here.

I really don't know what's up with beta blogger these days. I've had the invitation to switch showing on my dashboard for two months and they won't let me. Today they won't let me leave comments on beta blogs. It's a little frustrating. I want to switch for no other reason than there's always the chance beta blogger is easier to work with. I do wonder why they put the invitation out there and then won't let you do it. And then they won't let you comment on the ones they DID let do it. Another sigh.

And while I'm at it, I'm curious about haloscan comments. Any information on that? I'm interested in knowing why you like it better and I'm wondering if it's true that when you go to haloscan you lose all previous comments left on your entire blog. Is that true? Mostly, can anyone tell me the benefits of switching? I figure if I'm going to start switching things, I might as well just get it all done. Maybe my blog won't blow up. :-)

For all my sweet friends who have asked me about the recipes I used for my gifts in a jar, I'm planning to post those in the next day or so. I've finished the jars with the exception of one kind of silver wired ribbon I need. I want to post photos (of course) so I've got to get to Michael's, get the ribbon and put it on the jars. So stay tuned. I made drink mixes (amaretto cappuccino and French vanilla cocoa) in pint jars and German chocolate brownie mix in quart jars. I'll get photos and recipes posted soon. Not to worry if you're wanting to do this. They really didn't take very long to make.

Since it really is a little silly to contemplate going to bed this early, I'm off for a long hot soak in Calgon Ocean Breeze Moisturizing Spa Bath.

The cookie jar is full again.

The soup's on.

Fresh bread is baking away in here.

Take me away!

Oh Barb I am so sorry about your daughter. I did not say anything before because I did not want to worry you, but that happened to me. I was in soooo much pain. They had to stuff this stuff done the open holes in my mouth that tastes awful but works almost immediately. But I sure felt when the stuff wore off. And then I had to go back ever few days to get more of the cloths put in.

I am sorry it was such a long day. I feel like I can smell the baking bread though. I need a new bread maker, mine decided to quit.

I hope your bath was relaxing. Blessings. I will be praying for your daughter.

I'm glad you said something about not being able to comment on blogs that had switched to beta blogger -- now I know I'm not losing my mind after all!

And yes, if you switch to haloscan, your comments are GONE. I tried it for about two days and decided I didn't like the content in some of the ads that showed up in the comments box, so I switched back.

Too Funny! I'm ready for Calgon to take me away too:) I know what you mean about your grandson keeping you going. I've got two and it is hard to find time to just be still. Your cookies look yummy and I'm waiting for the pictures of the gift in a jar. I made the French Vanilla Cocoa too and I hope everyone enjoys their gift. Have a great evening:D

I'm with you on the Calgon idea! Whew! this has been a wild week and it's only Tuesday!
Homemade bread sounds good - I might have to start a loaf tomorrow morning before leaving for work! Thanks for the idea - you're a gem!

I almost feel guilty having time off, since I'm done with work, while you're on major overload.

Thank Heaven for Calgon! You're getting very good at making all those photos. Way to go!

Rest when you can.

You sound as busy as ever! It's no wonder you're so tired. That Calgon sounds really, really good!!

Beta blogger has stumped a bunch of us today. The blogs that don't accept anonymous comments don't have the option to choose "other" and fill in our name. Those are the ones that locked me out all day today.

Whoa! Value size Calgon! It's no wonder with how much you do get done!

Sorry to hear about Mandy - now I KNOW I don't want to get my wisdom teeth pulled. Yikes! But I guess they put you out for it.

I'll have to check in with you about sewing curtains for the living room. I bought a sewing machine a week ago and I can't wait to create things with it. But yes, first there's painting to be done. Who knew one simple little idea can lead to so many other steps to getting there!

Love the cookie jar!

I'm so glad she is getting better. That is sooooo very hard at any age.

Oh- and ShihTzu's on sugar? badddd combo. Does Chelsea spin around like a dervish? Maggie (my moms mophead) does- and it cracks us up like crazy. She does it for about 10 minutes then collapses.

Have fun with the drapes- what a trooper and a friend!

Hugs

Ugh I was afraid it was dry socket! so sorry; I remember how that felt when I went through - miserable!

It's frustrating not to be able to leave comments and I'm behind as it is with leaving comments, and people keep posting new posts and I just can't keep up! aaahhh...pass the calgon will you? :)

Glad the dr. is on it and hope Mandy is doing better. I bet you are so glad you get to see Cameron so much, what a blessing.
Enjoy that bath!

Barb, I SO want to live at your house!! I've had a very tiring day with my girls. I almost want to get my wisdom teeth pulled just so I can lie on your sofa and smell your beef stew and bread cooking while snacking on some homemade cookies. (Although, if I had my teeth pulled, I couldn't enjoy any of those things). I'll take my Calgon bath right before bed.....

Hmmmm....I'm picturing myself there now....

What a busy lady, enjoy your bath, sooooooo nice! And what a good friend you are to make the drapes.

Oh wow, I'm so sorry your daughter is having to go through all that, but I'm glad she saw the doctor and is on her way to feeling much better. I admire you for the energy you have chasing Cameron around! :)

Those cookies look delicious, and so does the other stuff... can't wait for pics and recipes of the mixes. I usually make cocoa mix at Christmas but French Vanilla cocoa sounds great too (it might be time to branch out!) :) Oh, and did I spy a Paula Deen cookbook hiding in the background?

Hope the bath was wonderful and you have a lovely evening!

Yummy to the French Vanilla cocoa! I love the Calgon tkae me away moment!

I've just sat down and had planned on trying to visit and comment on as many blogs as I could tonight...now I know it's not just me that can't comment on Beta Blogger accounts!! Grrrr! Hopefully it will be resolved tomorrow! If this is their way of forcing us to change, well then let us change...like you I tried and it wouldn't let me! lol So sorry to hear about Mandy having suffered all weekend with dry socket...it sounds so very painful:-( I don't think I could raise a young child again...not enough energy to keep up with one now! lol Those peanut butter cookies look so yummy!! Hope you enjoyed your Calgon bath, I love that stuff:-)

Poor Mandy - I hope by now she's feeling lots better. I know just what you mean about that energy thing. I look at my daughters-in-law with great awe after spending time watching the grandkids. How did we ever do it?
Enjoy that bath - and don't forget a good book!!
Don't work too hard on those drapes. You have such a sweet servant-heart.
Blessings.

I notice the Calgon is Value Sized. Do you have a lot of take me away moments? :vD

Seriously I wish I was eating at your house tonight! My family got chicken drumsticks thrown at them while I was running out the door.

So sorry Mandy went through all that pain. Hope she is on the mend now with no more incidents. How's Rob's arm doing?

4pm is about when I always want a nap!!But then I remember that I have to get dinner started soon...I'll have to remember the bath that might be a good compromise.

I'm doing cookie mixes in jars for Christmas this year too but the brownines sound good can't wait for that recipe.

\Hope your daughter is feeling better!

I'm sorry about Mandy. I hope she feels better soon. And oh yes, Cameron will just get busier and faster and funnier and cuter. That's what makes it all worth it.

As far as haloscan, I like it alot. I am glad that I switched early on though because to lose all comments at this point would be so sad. It does have nice features though, especially the upgraded version. If you have any questions, just email me.

Mommy Dearest said...

Now I know it's not just me who can't comment on beta accounts. I've never had the invitation to join. I signed up for haloscan a long time ago, then panicked when I lost the comments; they're not gone, just "invisible." When I got rid of haloscan, they came back again. I was just too sentimental to lose those comments... Part of me is very tempted to just ditch blogger and switch to WordPress. I keep another blog there, but you can't customize your template without a charge.

We are dealing with various degrees of sickness around here, and I've got the birthday tea for my girls on Saturday!

Phyllis said...

I'd like to be sick at your house! Those cookies, that stew, and homemade bread are looking good! All that AND you've taken care of a sick daughter and a small grandson! No wonder you've got the Calgon Value size! You deserve a little down time.

I'm so glad to hear that there are others who have been unable to comment -I thought it was just my computer. I have not been able to comment on Toni's (A Broad in Athens) blog AT ALL (Toni, are you reading this?) I wonder if they will be able to get it worked out?

Hope your daughter is feeling better tonight, and that you are refreshed from your little spa treatment!

Linds said...

Beta blogger beat me today too. Glad i am not the only one. I am exhausted just reading this! And I am so glad your daughter is on the road to recovery. Good luck with the drapes!

Pamela said...

Commenting has been very frustrating! It seems a little better today.

Thank goodness that Mandy went back in that dry socket thing sounds awful. Seeing your child in pain and not being able to help is terrible.

Kids do keep us young, just trying to keep up with them is excercise enough for me. lol They sure are fun though!

Christina said...

I hope Mandy is getting better. This happened to my husband also. They always tell you to watch out for dry socket, but it seems like I have never met a living sould who was actually able to avoid this.

I love it when the toddlers start talking. Believe me I know what you mean by not being able to sit down all day. Where do these little guys get all this energy, and why can't we get some too. I am ready for bed every night early. What ever possesed me to have a toddler running around at 42. You know I wouldn't have it any other way.

OK, beef stew, homemade bread, and peanut butter cookies. I should of come to your house for dinner. I haven't made much here since hubby's been gone, but your pictures are starting to get me in the cooking mood so maybe when I grocery shop tomorrow I will stock up on some foods for some good ole down home cooking.

Sorry to hear about beta, but there always seems to be something going on with blogger. Good luck trying to get it switched.

Sounds like you needed a nice soothing bath after that day! I tried to comment last night, but blogger was having no part of it. Tried again to switch to beta, uh uh. No way! Tried to comment on beta blogs. Nope!
I'm hoping today is a better day all around!

Regarding the problems with comments:
I experienced something similar a couple of weeks ago of not being able to comment, but it was reversed. I have a Beta account and I could not leave comments on NON BETA accounts. So what I discovered was that if available, I could choose to leave a comment as "other" and it would work.

About switching to the Beta. As far as I know, the only remaining reason a user cannot transfer their blogs to the Beta version is size. What I mean by that is that apparently if the total of your blog posts plus comments is more than roughly "a couple of thousand" then the blog will not transfer yet. They say that this restriction will gradually go away.

Barb,
Don't feel bad I tried to switch to beta yesterday and it wiped out my whole blog so I am going to have to start over with a new bog. Oh well God has a reason.

I am so happy your daughter is feeling better. I am so sorry she (and you) had to go through that pain. A mother's pain is so real when seeing a child suffer. Tara gets teary eyed every time Alexys cries and she can't figure it out.

I changed to beta blogger through my gmail (google) account and things have been working VERY SMOOTHLY. So, I am not sure but maybe that is what you need, a google gmail account. I can send you an invite if you like. I do prefer gmail to any email I have EVER used before and I have used several.

Have a great afternoon! Hugs!

Girl you are always so inspired! Even if I did stay home all day I don't think I'd be cooking all day...and I know there would be no peanut butter cookies..I love em too much and no one else would get any...then I'd gain tons of weight! You deserve a Calgon moment...go on...:) Hope Mandy feels better quick! Especially in time for the holiday fun.

Barb said...

Oh no, Elizabeth Q! I can't believe that happened. Now I can't contact you. Chelsea received Miss Candi's Christmas card yesterday and wanted to thank her. So I hope you come back here and read this.

Boy, that makes me really, really nervous about switching to beta.

Barb, I copy and paste my template into my WORD documents. I do this every so often. Only takes a couple minutes. I lost my blog once and was able to restore it easily that way. Thanks to my daughter Timoni for that bright idea :)

I like the way your day ended - homemade soup and bread, a bubblebath - but I'm sorry that your daughter is suffering so much. I hope that today is a much better day for her.
I've switched over to beta, but I had to start a whole new blog - they wouldn't let me just transfer things over.

Grafted Branch said...

Yes, I've had trouble leaving comments on some too. We'll hang in there!

This is the message that shows up on my Beta Blogger Dashboard as of yesterday: (maybe it will help clarify why you haven't been able to switch yet)
"At this point, the pieces are in place:

The new Blogger is feature complete
All new accounts are created on the new version
Known issues on the new Blogger are few and getting fewer
(Almost*) all users are able to move their blogs to the new Blogger

This all means that we’ll be removing the “beta” from the new Blogger very soon! At that time, we’ll begin the process of requiring that users of old Blogger move to new Blogger.

* = From time to time we may limit switching in order to keep old and new Blogger functioning smoothly. Also, users with particularly large blogs may not switch right now. This latter restriction will be gradually lifted."

I made the switch to beta very smoothly, however Laurel made a great suggestion that took some of the terror out of it..and I beleive Kathleen also mentioned it here on a comment...make sure you copy and paste your template into a word doccument..if you don't know how, email me and I will guide you through it. Also, before I switched to Beta, Blogger asked that I set up a google account...very easy...just go to www.google.com...way up in the right hand corner it may say..sign In...click on that and you should be able to get an account..then when you switch to Beta (which will soon be just the New Blogger), you will be all set when they ask you to sign in with your Google account. Now, (I'm sorry this is getting so long) once you have switched, it is a pain to comment on non-beta sites..but this will make it easier...before you even comment, scroll down to see if it asks you to sign in with your google account..if it does that means you have to sign in first, then you will be able to leave a message...but this is only necessary on non-beta blogs (I had to do this to comment on yours) anyway...the switch went real easy and I haven't had near as many problems creating posts etc. as I used to...especially with loading pictures. So be patient...it sounds like they are starting to get to everyone ;)

Barb,
I was afraid when you mentioned your daughters pain that it might be dry socket...that is very very painful!
I've got the exact same cookie jar...but no cookies in it...it is chock full of hard candy right now...
we are all having problems with the blogger and I echo you in they won't let me change over either....

Barb--I'm switching to "beta" tomorrow, if all things are still in place. Do it with me, and we'll thrive or crash together!

I, too, have been having trouble with comments the last two days, and I think that's why. I went ahead and registered on google (which is where this comment will come from), so I hope that I can use that when I switch my blog over.

Someone told me that with Haloscan, you are not emailed the comments as they are made, which means if someone leaves you a message on a post from a week ago, you might miss it. I would.

Cheryl said...

Well Barb, as usual you have been very busy. Hope you enjoyed that bath!
I sure have learned a lot of information about Beta Blogger in your comments. I was fixing to switch too, so it has been very helpful. Hope it goes well with you too.
Sorry to hear about Mandy' dry socket. I have known others who have had that and it was painful. I'm so thankful that I have never experienced it.
