I may make this just for the cuteness factor. I found this in my BH&G magazine and it apparently won the grand prize in some contest. Am I getting good mileage out of the December issue of Better Homes and Gardens or what!

EGGNOG PUNCH
2 quarts French vanilla ice cream
2 quarts chilled dairy eggnog (8 cups)
1 liter cream soda, chilled
Peppermint sticks, cinnamon sticks or candy canes
Ground cinnamon
Place ice cream in an extra-large punch bowl. Add half the eggnog. Stir and mash mixture with a potato masher until ice cream is melted and mixture is well-combined. Stir in remaining eggnog. Slowly pour in cream soda, stirring to combine. To each glass add a peppermint stick, cinnamon stick or candy cane. Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon. Makes about 24 six-ounce servings.
Come on. Admit it. It's pretty. Who cares if anyone actually drinks it.
And because these biscuits sound soooo yummy with that beverage (LOL), check out this wonderful-sounding biscuit recipe:
Uh oh. I lost the credits for this photo. I'm in big trouble now.
BACON-ONION BISCUITS
4 slices bacon, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
3/4 cup butter
1 cup milk
In a skillet cook bacon and onion until bacon is slightly crisp and onion is tender. Drain off and discard fat.
In a bowl stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and cream of tartar. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in center of flour mixture. Combine milk and bacon mixture; add all at once to flour mixture. Using a fork, stir just until moistened.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead dough by folding and gently pressing dough for four to six strokes or just until dough holds together. Pat or lightly roll dough to 3/4-inch thickness. Cut dough with a floured 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter, rerolling dough scraps as necessary. Place unbaked biscuits on baking sheet; freeze one hour. Transfer to a plastic freezer bag. Seal, label and freeze up to one month.
To serve: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place frozen biscuits one inch apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 25 minutes or until golden.
Makes one dozen flaky, tender biscuits; the recipe is easily doubled.
(What I like about these is that you can make them whenever you have time, not necessarily when you're busy trying to get the rest of dinner cooked, freeze them and then just pop them in the oven. I'm a big fan of things that can be pulled out of the freezer at the last minute.)
That's it. I'll stop posting recipes now. (For today, anyway.) I'm just about done with that magazine anyway.
Here's a little status report: Mandy is still here. She had planned to return to school today because her little class is going on a big field trip. But, although she did really well all weekend, after having all four wisdom teeth removed last Thursday afternoon, she's not doing so well now. She's in a lot of pain and we suspect that in spite of taking Amoxicillin through this whole ordeal, she has an infection. So she got a substitute teacher to replace her today and she has to get back home (an hour drive) and see her oral surgeon right away. I hate seeing my child in this kind of pain.
Also,Cameron was here yesterday and will be here again today so things are, as always, on hold for me until tomorrow. Can't seem to get a single thing done around this house when that busy little boy is here!
So this is tacky but, Bev and Diane, I will email you back as soon as I can and Renee, I'm praying for you.

Oh Bev, you could never be tacky because you do everything with such style. I mean just look at that picture of eggnog. It actually looks like something I would drink.
Hope Mandy feels better soon.
and it is never tacky to let friends know in any way you can that you are thinking about them and praying for them. BTW...I love eggnog...and yes, it is like being the Lone Ranger...looks like I will have to make this and drink it all myself!! I love the recipes!!!!
P.S. An heading out this morning to get the yarn for those caps ;)
Barb, my Mom and Dad always loved having a special glass of eggnog for the holdidays. I am loving your biscuit recipe. I have 13 people coming for dinner tomorrow evening and the biscuits look great! Hopey Mandy feels better. A tooth infection can just be murder.
Have a wonderful day! Have oodles of fun with that little Cameron! :)
Mmmm...Sounds delicious! I do love eggnog! I've honestly never had fruitcake.
Hope Mandy heals quickly-that can be such an ordeal. Could she have dry socket?
I love eggnog and so do my kids! I put eggnog in my coffee each morning when we have it. This sounds like a great recipe.
Sorry Mandy is not feeling well with the surgery. Praying she'll get through this quickly. How's Rob?
You know, I don't dislike eggnog, but I don't just LOVE it! With that meme, it was a no-brainer for me to pick hot cocoa :) That recipe does look good, and you know, I tossed my BH&G in a "pile" of magazines and haven't looked at. I feel like I'm learning a lot and can just skim through it later by reading your blog, hehehe!
So sorry your daughter is having trouble post-surgery. I've had my wisdom teeth out and other than a bit of pain and swelling, it wasn't too bad. I hope that it's not an infection or if it is, they can get it cleared up very quickly. Hope she feels better soon, and I know you will too :)
Have a happy day Barb!
Nope, I just don't care for eggnog. That just leaves more for you, right?
However, those biscuits sound fabulous and I will definitely be making them!
I'm praying for Mandy to have some relief from this pain. I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled also and it's just not fun.
Aunt Barb, I love that Big Mama called you Bev--you know you're sisters when people confuse you! Chris never fails to call me by his sister's name when we're all together, and vice versa.
That said, I think I could even try this eggnog. It sounds like the other yummy ingredients would overpower the eggnog itself:)
I finished Janae and Dan's crocheted hats and scarf--they loved them! (I think so, anyway. They said they did. I guess they could've been lying.) I still have Leslie's to make, and then I'm back to babies:)
Tell Mandy I hope she feels better soon!!
And I don't think the last part is tacky. I'm seriously considering sending my Christmas "cards" via email:)
Oh Bev, I LOVE egg nog. My daughter called it "Christmas milk" for years :)
I had an infection after my wisdom teeth were pulled but that was because they FORGOT to give me the meds! Grrr. Hope Mandy sees her doctor soon.
Oh my word, I called you Bev too - I can't believe it :) Sorry Barb
I hate to tell ya but I'm not much on eggnog, but this does sound good and the biscuits too..
I hope Mandy gets better soon!!
:-D
Barb- I wish I didn't like eggnog. We buy it the moment it hits the shelves in November. My hips continue to carry it around well into the new year. It's delicious to me! I love the way it is plain, but the picture is too tempting not to try. Thanks for sharing.
The eggnog looks and sounds delish!
Sorry Mandy isn't feeling well. (at least maybe she could drink eggnog if she couldn't chew well?)
I remember when little "D" was that age and we had him five days a week. It was hard to get anything done!
:)
I love my sister's Chocolate Egg Nog, heavy on the nog.;)
I do not have exact measurements but basically, it is a quart of egg nog (the real deal, NOT low fat!), a pint of heavy whipping cream, several big squirts of chocolate syrup, then copious amounts of Creme de Cocoa liqueur and rum. The alcohol - you can add as much or little depending on your taste and how much "nog" you are able to handle. It is heavy and rich and loaded with calories but it is SO worth it! I figure once a year is not too much to indulge one sinful little luxury.
And I agree. It sounds like your daughter has dry sockets and I sympathize since I got them too when I had all four wisdom teeth pulled. I will spare you the gory, painful details....mostly because I still cringe at the memory. It was almost worse than child birth. Suffice it to say, my dentist had to replace the upholstery covers on the arms of his exam chair. I ripped them off. Literally.
First off...please tell Mandy I'll be praying for her! Poor thing!
And secondly, you are NOT the only one in bloggyville that loves egg nog and fruitcake. Our family starts buying egg nog as soon as it hits the stores in October. We always mix it with milk and drink it down like water.
And I always felt like an outcast because I LOVE a good fruitcake! :)
I am always SHOCKED when people don't like eggnog. I mean, what's not to like? It's like dessert in a cup!!! Creamy, sugary goodness with a hint of nutmeg...mmmm....
His,
Mrs. U
Now that eggnog does not sound too bad and I actually do like fruit cake if it is homemade and fresh and made properly. I love mincemeat as well and I know some people are like "Yuck" big time but I love it!
Thanks bunches and BH&G is a great magazine in my humble opinion.
Oh, praying for Mandy! I had mine out about 10 years ago and I deeply sympathize!
I sure hope Mandy feels better! How aweful for her. I saw both those recipes in the Dec. magazine, and even though I'm not a fan of eggnog, I have to admit that the recipes sounds yummy!
Oh yum! I'm a BIG fan of eggnog. We bought a quart on Saturday night and by Monday morning it was gone! That's just with 2 people drinking it! I'm going to have to try both of these recipes. They sound wonderful!
I do like eggnog. I always get the soy milk one. And it's got to have some freshly grated nutmeg on it and maybe some cinnamon.
Sorry about Mandy being in pain! Dental things are so awful sometimes!
I hope Mandy is feeling better soon!
I understand your frustration and not understanding why others don't like eggnog. I mean some people won't even try my recipe for crackers, cheese and marshmallows! You know, what's not to like! hint..hint..
But I don't care for eggnog either....but I have at least tried it!
There's nothing tacky about you, Barb! I hope that Mandy is feeling better soon - that's just the worst.
I DO like eggnog - I just prefer hot chocolate. I'm jotting down your recipe for my husband who is an eggnog fanatic!
Barb -
this does sound delicious... but I think with those ingredients, my hips and thighs are still going to convince me to avoid it!
now, if you find a fruitcake recipe that actually sounds this yummy then you will be, for sure, crowned "The Bloggity-ville Domestic Diva"!
Blessing,
Karla
ps - and you couldn't be tacky even if you threw yourself into a vat of craft glue!
Hi there :-) I actually like eggnog, but it's just too too fattening. I should have enjoyed it more when I was young and skinny. I also like fruitcake, esp if its been soaked for a month in rum. Don thinks it makes a good doorstop so we dont buy it.
Email when you have time - I'm barely home right now...xooxox
I like eggnog too and will be buying some for Christmas. This eggnog punch sounds wonderful with the ice cream! Actually I just bought Dryers's special edition eggnog ice cream (the commissary was out of the peppermint!) and it's pretty good too!
Sory to hear Mandy is having a hard time and now might have an infection. I had all 4 of mine pulled at once too and thank goodenss my mom was there to take care of me; I started to get the dry sockets and it was not fun at all. Hope she recovers soon!
That picture makes it look pretty good! I love that you are giving us the best of what's inside the issue, so fun!
Hope Mandy is feeling better soon.
Can´t wait to make up a batch of the biscuits. They look delicious. Enjoyed your blog and looking forward to visiting again.
Blessings,
Kathie in Costa Rica
Umm, I LOVE eggnog! Who in the heck have you been talking to that doesn't like eggnog? That is like saying you don't like cake, or pizza! It is SO yum-O!!! :)
And, I ADORE this recipe - I actually drooled when I read it!
Poor Mandy! I feel so bad for her.
I don't hate eggnog, I just like hot chocolate better. But no fruitcake, thank you very much! But eggnog can only be enjoyed, really, by people like you who never gain a pound, no matter what they eat or drink! No fair!
I think it is the word. Eggnog. I am English. We don't do eggnog. Strange word. I wonder where it comes from.... But your biscuits, now those I will try. They look wonderful! And I really hope your daughter is well soon.
I'll definitely try the biscuits- they sound so scrumptious!
I may try the eggnog too- but will leave out the peppermint, the cinnamon ....
Oh and the cream soda.
Uh- the eggnog too.
So- let's see- that leaves the ....
hmmmm
uh well
oh!
the ice cream.
PERFECT!
I love eggnog! We make a homemade version with real eggs. It is delicious. Can't understand why anyone wouldn't like eggnog. However, I am in agreement with the fruitcake crowd (is that an oxymoron?)
Tammy from Leave It To Beaver Lifestyle.
I love fruitcake, in fact I make one every second year (it lasts 2 years lol) but I'm not a big lover of eggnog, although this recipe sure sounds delish so I may try it!
I love me some egg nog. You are not alone. As for the fruit cake, I am not sure I have ever tried one, but I would be willing to!
No hurry and no worries as far as emailing me, Barb. I was busy all day on Tuesday, and I'll be busy most of the day on Wednesday. I also know you've got your hands full, so don't worry yourself about emailing. I'll be here when you find time, no rush.
Tacky? Whatever could be tacky about letting a sister and a friend that you're busy but you haven't forgotten them? I'm actually quite flattered you took time our of your super-busy day to leave me a message, whatever form it took. I know you've been busier than a one-legged man at a butt-kickin'!
And I LOVE eggnog, and good fruitcake. But I like it with nutmeg, no cinnamon, please. ;-)
Love you, girl.
I LOVE eggnog and tolerate hot chocolate only for it's comforting warmth.
Okay - not so sure about the eggnog, but the bisuits do sound yummy. I might have to try this weekend.
