Are you like me? Since I created my blog four months ago I've visited hundreds of other blogs. And some of the names are so creative my first thought is, "I wonder why she chose this name. What does it mean to her? Does it say something about her?"
I've been thinking about doing this for a while and I hope you'll join me. I'd really love to know what inspired your blog's name. Does it have some special meaning to you? Is it just a clever play on words? Do you think when people arrive at your place your blog name tells them something about you that you want them to know right away?
I'd really love it if you'd share the thoughts you had when you chose your blog name. I know lots of us are curious.
I just thought this would be fun. And I'll get us started.
A Chelsea Morning. I was born in 1950. So when I hit my teens and music became something I couldn't get through a single hour of the day without, I did indeed love the song A Chelsea Morning by Joni Mitchell.
Woke up, it was a chelsea morning,
and the first thing that I heard
Was a song outside my window,
and the traffic wrote the words...
and the first thing that I heard
Was a song outside my window,
and the traffic wrote the words...
Oh my, yes! This song was right up my pseudo hippie-dippie alley.
However, I also have a one year old Shih Tzu, Chelsea, and she was only eight months old when I created my blog. Chelsea was a little slow learning the ins and outs of pottying outside. And she sleeps with me. So believe me, when she woke up and started jumping all over me, I knew what she wanted and there was no luxurious laying around and stretching and sort of sliding out of bed slowly to head for the coffee pot. Nope. I sprang from the bed and stumbled to the back door and walked around in wet grass with her until the deed was done. It was definitely a Chelsea morning!
So the name I chose for my blog was actually a play on words. I knew people would associate the name with my age and that song, never guessing, until they'd read post after post about Chelsea, that this blog is in fact named after her.
So what inspired your blog name? We'd all love to know. Just run home and do a "why I chose my blog name" post and come back here and link it. The curiosity has been killing me!

Oh goody! You got your word cloud in your sidebar! I figured out how to change my gray border to green, so I'll be getting to that soon. After I do this linky thingy, of course. Cool idea! I've wondered the same thing too. How do you suppose Diane came up with hers? I'm just dyin' to know!! ;-)
xoxoxo
Barb! Great idea! Can't wait to hear more stories. And yours, about your morning experiences with Chelsea, that's a great one! Mines up.
Oh golly, oh gosh, oh gee....Uh....I'm feelin' kind of lame here, LOL. ;D I'm afraid not too much thought went into my blog name!! Just like me, unpretentious and to the point. Works for me! LOL :-D
I'll spare everyone that blog entry, since my choice for my blog name is kind of, like, GLARINGLY OBVIOUS!! :-)
That is a great Idea! I'd been wondering why some people pick what they've picked!
I enjoyed your story, its a great reflection on your life!
Well, Diane, that's just what I thought. It's so like you to be unpretentious and to the point. My sister's middle name is Diane, and I don't think it's lame at all. :-D
Cute cute idea - if I can get a raincheck of a few days I'll try to come back, post baby arrival, and do this. It will be fun to see what everyone has to say.
Okay, Barb, I always wanted to know this about people's blogs but I never really wanted to call attention to myself...But not to participate and lurk would just be rude.
I touched upon where my blog's name came from a few months ago so I linked to that post. Goodness knows, I don't want people to know what it means right away!
I struggle with depression and it's like being in a fog. Simple as that. Writing helps me figure out why I feel that way and helps pull me out of the fog. So there ya have it...
Great idea! I can't wait to see what everyone has to say!
Hey Barb!! I stumbled across your blog and have really enjoyed what I have read. I was excited to see that you are from Colorado. My parents live in Aurora (suburb of Denver for those who don't know> I have only been there twice in the last 10 years. I also enjoyed sharing my story of my blog's name.
i am going to bookmark your blog so I can come back frequently.
Okay, its done. I don't know why I'm nervous putting it out there. Oh well, maybe it will speak to someone. Thanks for allowing me to share. You are always thinking of others. Great quality to have!
What a GREAT idea! This should provide for some good reads! Thanks for thinking of this!!
Great idea - I love hearing other people's stories. And I'd never have guessed the meaning of Chelsea morning!
This is a terrific idea, Barb! I haven't had a chance to blog yet, but I will explain my blog name when I do.
Alright, I'll see if I can make a post out of it. Might only be ten words though. (like I ever experience a lack of words) Tomorrow okay? I thought so!
Good idea. I too wonder what's behind some of those names out there;) Very creative.
OK..mine are up! Thanks again for this great idea.
Great idea Barb, I've always wondered how other's came up with such cool names :) I wondered about yours for the longest time but didn't have the guts to ask why LOL
Now I know and I'm loving it even more.
Mine is up too :)
great idea barb!
Great idea.
Great idea! I added mine :)
Great idea!
Great idea! I did one. Can't wait to go poke around on some of your links.
I just love this idea. I'm looking forward to reading all the stories. Loved your story Barb and you have a beautiful title! Laura
Barb,
Great idea! I'm a friend of Cindy Swanson's and read her blog about your idea. So, here it is.
Be blessed.
Good idea, Barb! I enjoyed your story. Mine's up. :0)
Love this idea Barb! It's been fun to go see everyone's posts, although Blogger is giving me fits with the comments.
Sorry about the double link, not sure what happened because I'm real computer savvy. :)
What a good idea Barb. Some of the blog names are so creative, and I'm eager to see how they came about. Fun!!
This has been so fun. Thanks for the great idea!
~Julie
This is so good. I've always wanted to know the story behind some of the names! But I wasn't creative enough to think to do this! And you're name is so nice and peaceful! P.S. I've been trying to comment on here since early this morn.! Silly Blogger!
What a great idea!! I find blog names interesting too. It's neat to hear people's stories.
Barb, Love that you came up with the "blog name game". Mine is up so I am off to read.
Chelsea is a great looking little Shih tzu, and I can see what a terrific inspiration she would be. :)
This is a nice idea. Mine is up.
What a great idea--looking at all the posts here, I can see others agree. I love your explanation. I will work on mine and link to it when I'm finished.
As the others have said, this is a wonderful idea and I will certainly participate!! As soon as I have done my post about it, I will come back and link it to you:-) Loved hearing how you came about A Chelsea Morning!! xoxo
Lovely idea, Barb. thanks for this cool way to get to know other bloggers.
I love this idea of yours Barb!
I'm not going to actually "play" because...well...when I originally started my blog it was not public- just for friend and family. I started it for two reasons...because it gave me an outlet to write and also to simply tell loved ones what our family was up to. I thought of a few other names but they were taken... so somehow came up with Family Doin's.
And though it describes my blog to a degree, well, it doesn't describe me because I'm a northwest gal who never goes around saying the word "doin's"! :)
So...for a month, now, I've been considering changing my name. Can I do that? Is it legal? And most importantly, will you still come visit me when I do?
OK...now I'm going to go read a few of the links! I've been curious about the blog names too!
Was hoping to wait to comment until I was in less of the funk. Not happening. So, Eeyore here. Love how the name came about. I didn't know about the song so thought it was just the dog.
lol it's funny how childhood memories and things we enjoyed are used! Great post!
That's such a cute story. Sure hope Chelsea lets you sleep in a bit more now :)
Will have to wait maybe til tomorrow. . .taking care of mum.
Sorry I entered twice...
Hi Barb! I added my link and it is my first post and you are mentioned in it. Your idea of explaining the name of the blog made me realize I needed to go ahead and start my blog. Thanks for the idea and I have really enjoyed reading your blog. Thanks!
Tammy
Oh and by the way, I made a mistake the first time I tried to make the link so there are 2 Tammys and 1 takes you to a site called Leave it to Beaver for someone named Bill, which mysteriously is my husband's name, although this is not his site. Go figure...
This is a fun idea! The long story is at the link I provided (one of my first posts)...the short story is that every time I go into Target with my boys, I am sure the employees are saying, "Here comes the code yellow mom." :) Given what I learned from the experience, I get a kick out of the "reputation."
oops...forgot to add:
I like your play on words - he, he - puppies and kids don't ever let you stretch and slide out of bed - it's always, "Up and at 'em!"
This is a cool idea and you have a really nice blog.
I will try to blog about this tomorrow and come back and link to my blog.
What a great game. I enjoyed reading everyone's entries, and have just now finished mine. Thanks for the inspiration to share here, Barb
What a neat idea! I found out about this post from Cindy Swanson's blog. So, I played. Inspiration for my Blog Name
Barb, I enjoyed the story of how you arrived at the title for your blog.Neat! I never knew the song, although I'm a little older than you, so I wouldn't have associated it with the blog name or your age, either. :)
Barb, Great idea...hope you enjoy its pretty simple. But I have enjoyed reading others. I loved yours and love your little dog. So sweet.
Jen
Oooo, fun. I actually blogged about this a month or two ago, so I just linked to the old post, if that's okay.
What a fun idea Barb!
Blessings!
Sorry I'm so late! Look at your Mr. Linky list! Clearly, a good idea. Thanks for the invite, Barb.
This is a fun idea! I've wondered the same thing myself.
When I first saw Jen's comment, I thought it said "and your little dog, too!" and I could hear the voice of the wicked witch of the west. LOL!
Oh this is so fun. I have often wondered the same thing. Thanks for doing this!
Lori
What a lovely idea! You have a wonderful blog too...Thanks for sharing. Kansasrose Jenny
I'm linked:-) xoxo
I found your blog and several that you are linked to a couple of months ago. I enjoyed them so much that I decided to start my own. I have had a blast. The first thing I do when I get on the computer is to check for new blogs, and sit and read for hours. Thanks for letting me sneak a peak into your life.
This is a great idea! I actually blogged about this back in May - My Blog Title.
You know, I don't think I've ever heard that song! My parents have at least one Judy Collins album, too. I like your story!
Mine's up - what a fun idea!
Fabulous idea. I have often wondered the same thing as well.
neat idea
I stumbled on your blog today and I love it. I will be back.
Great idea...I love your blog too!! I always loved the song too.
Good gracious - look at all of you! I dont have time to play this one right now - possibly in the airport. Barb, have you considered a meme, Sunday Meanderings, pick the question.....looks like a lot of us out here to me.
I came here because I saw Lauren's post. :) What a neat idea.
Hi Barb,
I came b/c of Gordon Cloud's post at Heavenly Heartburn...a great blog, you should visit! Great idea, thanks!!!
Sincerely,
Tony
A good post and a wonderful question...I put my name on your list before I did post....I will do it now and come back when I am finished.........
I tried to do the linky thingy, but it just isn't working - my name is there FOUR TIMES! But nobody can get there. So maybe they can get there from here. We'll see.
My DH (Darrell) told me of your quest so here I am! :)
Great idea. Wish I had the time to read them all.
Thanks Barb for this idea, and the link. And thanks to KansasRose for pointing me in this direction!
You have a great blog!
Very nice blog! I love the idea, and look forward to checking out as many of these "blogfriends" as possible.
I know I will want to read all these. Don't know if I will. I never made it through all of Boomama's Tour. LOL. But thanks for letting me post my link.
This was a great idea! Wish I had thought it up! :D
This is a great way for us new comers to blogging to get see and read what other have to blog about.
This is a great idea ... I too have often wondered what inspires people to call their blogs whatever they call 'em. Sometimes it's pretty logical - sometimes not. I never would have guessed that you derived your name from a song. I imagine "Chelsea" being a beautiful spot by the ocean (where you vacation? There's no ocean in Colorado!) and you were inspired to name your blog after a walk along the beach at sunrise - watching the tide come in and the haze burn off. Never would have I guessed it was about a dog needing to be walked. Ha!!!
I can't imagine people wouldn't understand my blog name - but here goes, anyway. My blog is also a play on words. My life has been and continues to be an amazing trip ... and I am the mom to an amazing set of toddler trips. Let the good times roll... :) :) :)
I'm your sister - I have to do this. Will run over right now and put it out there. Next week in Texas I'll come back and look everyone up - really!
Great idea! So much fun to see what is behind all those fun names!
I'm new to your site but I heard about it on so many others, I had to come check it out.
My blog name is just meant to describe the "craziness" of having 3 kids....22 month old twin boys (who grunt and act like animals a LOT of the time) and a 8 year old daughter. Hence the Kearleyzoo ... Kearley being our last name.
I wish I was as creative as you. I love your story!
What a great idea: to share the reason for the name of blogs! Mine, RennyBA's Terella (a model of the earth) was to illustrate the magic of communicating my daily experiences from Norway and the Nordic countries, the significant four seasons, our culture and habits. Read more here:
http://rennybasblog.blogspot.com/2005/11/my-model-of-earth.html
Ok I'm a little late for this one since there's close to 100 names already. =) I'll link to mine anyway. By the way, it's a great idea.
Great idea...Gordon from Heavenly Heartburn sent me over. Nice to meet you!
This is a nice idea.
The name of my blog Shoes Off at the Door, Please is obviously inspired by the blog's theme, which is why people should always remove their shoes when entering their homes and why it is quite reasonable to expect this of guests and otehr visitors.
God Bless
Matthew
I just posted an answer to this very question just hours before finding your blog. Interesting.
I left why I chose obeehave on the praire farmeress's blog but I'll put it on my blog too.
I love Joni Mitchell that is what intriqued me to visit you Barb! Do you play? Then you have the sea and lindbergh ... she came up this morning, as we were talking about impatience, at work and I told everybody I was outpatient!
Evidently ... I had a lot to say about this! My post is up, and thanks for spear-heading this up! Fun!!
Great idea - both on your part and for something for me to write on.
The idea actually "just came" to me - and then settled in for the reasons given.
Very interesting question, Barb. Because I'm into writing Life Stories, a couple of years ago I wrote one entitled "A Growing Delight" which explained how I came to love gardening as a small child and the delight that growing plants gives me. My blog was originally intended to be a gardening blog but, like many others, it's spread its focus a little wider to encompass my growing interest in photographing clouds, sunsets, sunrises, trees and the Australian countryside.
I look forward to 'strolling' through your blog now that I've found it, through Lee-ann.
Great idea to share... I chose my title (Rainy City Tales)because originally I wanted my blog to not be about me, but about life in the city in which I live (Vancouver, BC)... but it's turning out to be more about me than I planned. Funny that.
I thought I did this correctly two days ago LOL but obviously there is more misbehaving then not in my life LOL
I think I was o something in the 90's so glad to help ya hit the triple digits Barb! I came back because I hadn't had time to read all I had found on your fun blog! Keep the porch light on! I enjoy your grand conduit of insights. E
My August 17 entry will tell you about the name of my blog... :)
What a creative meme! This is the first one I have ever done...it will be posted tomorrow.
Well, I've posted mine! It's my 200th post! Check it out!
I wrote about this last year, but I thought it could stand being repeated. Thanks for the impetus.
I love this idea. I've often wondered how people came up with their blog names.
This was easy for me. My very first post was about my blog name. :)
What a greatidea! I like your blog. I will add you to my bookmarks!
I changed the name of my blog in July, so I linked to the post where I explained. This was a fun idea. Thanks!
Well I am here at last and I guess it is better to be late then never get there at all..............anyway my life is about my home, my family and my friends and so pear tree cottage is the name of our home as our home is wrapped in several pear trees around the garden and I like the idear of the pear trees holding this little home, family and friends together. This is why I called my blog pear tree cottage.
I have loved reading all the 118 names above mine Barb and hope you have many more added beyond me on this very fine list of yours.
best wishes to all
I didn't realize it had been so long. Wanted to post mine sooner, but the days just got away from me. My blog story is up at http://shootersstation.blogspot.com/2006/09/whats-in-name.html. What a fun story to tell.
I've often wondered the same thing!
What a fun idea. Thank you so much for this great opportunity.
I look forward to reading through all the stories.
I really enjoyed writing about my blog, especially since the story of the blog is also part of the story of my early relationship with my husband.
We were just trying to recall if we were dating or engaged. But we fixed it at dating because when he was setting up the email account, a big question was whether to use my last name. We were both hemming and hawing and trying not to explicitly discuss why I might not want to use my last name. How funny. Good thing I didn't since it's now different!
Rhonda tipped me off about your site. Very nice!
If you have ever been to my site, you will notice that I put in an "About" section for this very reason. Lots of people have asked me what my blog name is about because it is rather strange.
Here's what I wrote in there to explain it:
"Spritti-what?
This Site:
Sprittibee is my nickname. I won't divulge the droll story behind it's beginnings, but I'll suffice to explain that it is a pet-name that my husband created back when we were dating. The site is my blog - or web journal - and I began it in 2005 to record links, ideas, personal family info, homeschooling lesson plans and photos of projects. Hopefully I can keep the site up until my kids can look back on it with fond memories of their childhood. That's what it's all about - recording our little beehive's journey through homeschooling and family life. Hopefully it will bless your family and your homeschooling efforts as well."
Another interesting post on this subject which I discovered when I first began blogging can be found here.
I believe Elliott Back's term for blog names was "unique and special snowflake". That has stuck with me ever since!
My blog, http://acts17verse28.blogspot.com/, is entitled "In Him We Live & Move & Have Our Being". This comes from Acts 17, verse 28, which is one of the loveliest verses to me. Come visit!
